Initial Comment:
In previous version of updater, choosing to update to the latest release incorrectly updated me to 4.5pre1. Now there is no way to get back to 4.4.2. There should be a clean way to downgrade without losing your settings. (Within reason, obviously downgrading to 3.x version wouldn't be supported, but within the same major version, it should be)

downgrading is not a supported operation. you need to manually get the
older installer and install it yourself.
