Strange, I downloaded everything in high res but the bullets looks low
res...

Yes, the omega is really too weak, useless.

I disagree here, I often used the vulcan instead of gaus, becaus the gaus
throws the opponent away, very impractical with lightweight opponents.

one more thing: Try to download and install all the hires assets for the
game. That might also fix the problem with the displaced shots from some
guns. Some of your model data seems to be flawed, since the exit points of
these shots are determined by the ship model in the game (the digital 3d
represenation of it has "markers" (actually coordinates denoting a spot on
the gun barrels telling the game were to let the shots come out from).

On my system, I cannot reproduce that problem.

Hey, i do'nt have the problems from 1) and from 2) concering Plasma and
Phoenix, but I also think that the Omega Cannon is way too weak and its
auto aiming doesn't work at all. I enjoyed using it a lot in original D2,
due to it's unusal characteristics. Is there a possibility to fix that (as
well as the problems mentioned by Conrad Roetgen?

Hi,

1) When collecting the gaus, the vulcan cannot be selected any more. the
same when collecting phoenix, plasma cannot be selected any more.

2) Shots from Plasma, Phoenix and are ejecting very close to the screen's
centre instead of ejecting from the left/right side. I cannot see any thing
due to this, all I see is plasma shots. Even worse with Omega cannon, it's
centre and that's why it blinds you. Btw: Omega seems to be extreme weak in
damage as well as in auto aiming.

3) Is it possible to get high res picture for the shots? The still look
very poor (see attached file)

4) At the end: a million thanks for your work here, how can I donate,
paypal?

I have been checking the Omega cannon code half of the day today, and it looks fine to me. You may want to limit the frame rate the game is running with if you haven't done so (see the render options menu).

I am currently adding a "boost omega cannon" option to the gameplay menu. Checking the option will make the Omega cannon track targets at a greater angle (~30 deg instead of 20 deg), have twice the range and do significantly (4x) more damage. This will make the Omega cannon a borderline cheat though. 😄

To gain access to Spreadfire and Vulcan cannon when you have the Helix or Gauss cannon:

1. Enable expert options (misc menu)
2. Disable notebook friendly mode (misc menu)
3. Disable smart weapon switch (gameplay menu)

There is an existing fan-meant and this D2 version isbeinfach the best. .B
I like to set the auto mine leveling myself, I like to be able to determine
the speeds and the steering capacity of the rockets, I like to be able to
adjust the smoke and splinters, lighting effects etc. etc. etc. this is
just great and insanely professional.

Tree ships available ? Great! Why hasn't anyone yet developed a missile
that makes enemy robots friends for a certain period of time? Slow

Yes, of course I played overload, it's really fun, but at the age of 38 I
just grew up with Descent. even with my 21:9 ultra wide screen I can play
it, really great, only a nice cockpit is missing, or at least the
possibility to scale the weapon symbols/icons in size.

I might actually look into some of the D2X_XL problems, but when I start
looking at the code I want to rewrite it completely ... if I had the time
and any chance to earn some serious money with it, I would rebuild it on
the Unity engine. No promises though, I am amazed anybody is still using
D2X-XL at all.

Regarding the misplaces shot exit points: You may want to reinstall the
game and make sure all models and textures are in the right folders. Last
time I looked into the game (out of nostalgia) everything in that regard
worked fine for me.
