Sounds to me like you have just the SVN repo location defined but not yet checked out, can that be? I agree with Barrie, would be best to upate documentation/instructions, I noticed the same when explaining to Dave that we who know it take a lot of things as granted/obvious. The Eclipse setup guide in our trac wiki which Peter did long ago would perhaps be the best point to start.
