it finally started to actually update some of the data anyway, but  
only if i can this via command line

  /usr/bin/rrdtool update /var/www/web4/web/rra/ 
localhost_activeconnections_137.rrd --template  
ActiveConnections:TotalConnections:MaxConnections:ActiveClients:TotalClients:MaxClients:ActiveSubscopes:TotalSubscopes:MaxSubscopes 
  N:100:30:2:0:30:1:0:0:0

instead of this which is generated in cacti

  /usr/bin/rrdtool update /var/www/web4/web/rra/ 
localhost_activeconnections_137.rrd --template  
ActiveConnections:TotalConnections:MaxConnections:ActiveClients:TotalClients:MaxClients:ActiveSubscopes:TotalSubscopes:MaxSubscopes
