lasso selection tool

Often, the thing you want to select cannot be selected using a rectangle. It would be great if you could select any shaped region using a lasso selector (as in Gimp, Windows Journal etc.)
This would be really useful to the many scientists who use it for equations and calculations, since often you want to select various complicated parts of the equation.
By the way -- great application -- I got a tablet so that I could do my calculations on it, and thought I would be forced to use Windows. Instead, Ubuntu worked out of the box, and xournal does what I need in terms of calculations. Wonderful!

Yes, the lasso tool definitely is on the to-do list (in fact there's been a lasso icon since version 0.1, but hidden because I never found the time to write the code). I just haven't gotten to it. I think there's a patch floating around somewhere on the net, but it may be for an older version, and I don't know how stable it is.

I'd like to see this in one of the next few releases. I'm not sure if i'll have time to write the code myself, but it doesn't seem all that hard. Then again, "it doesn't seem hard" is always an ominous phrase

As I wrote on forum, I think it will be helpful if it will be possible to see what you have selected. There are many ways how to realize this. You could invert (of course temporarily) color, or double-line selected lines, or change background nearby lines... Many ways.

Another vote for the lasso tool. It would be extremely useful.
The lasso tool is in 0.4.7 and works nicely for me.
