I suggest a simple test, just type:
	od -c yourfile.v5d
or, if you dare,
	more yourfile.v5d

If the first characters of the file are not V5D but something like D5V
then you probably didn't apply correctly Bill's suggestion, otherwise som=
e
more information about your program or the output file is needed.
