Hope ImageMagick is working for you now.

I use xwud, an X Window System image undumping utility, that allows
users to display in a window an image saved in a specially formatted
dump file, such as produced by xwd. e.g.. "xwud -in hole.xwd". I've also
found that "xv" is a great tool except when reading xwd formatted files, 
it inverts the xwd color values.
