Explosions from all sources (dying ships, missile detonations, et cetera) should spawn shrapnel, essentially numerous glowing BOLT type projectiles that quickly radiate out from the explosion and damage whatever they hit.
Indeed. Even WC 1 had damaged ships' "guts" falling out, why not do it all the way?
In case of missile and flak warheads, shrapnel would be implementable in a fully controlled way via [feature-requests:#48]
