About Vim

Vim is a highly configurable text editor built for creating and changing any kind of text efficiently. It is included as "vi" with most UNIX systems and with Apple OS X. Vim is rock stable and is continuously being developed to become even better. Vim is persistent, multi-level, with an extensive plugin system, support for hundreds of programming languages and file formats, powerful search and replace feature, and it integrates with many tools. Vim is a text editor which includes almost all the commands from the Unix program "Vi".

    Pros: Free & Open source.
    Can be used to open all text formats and large file sizes.
    Supports almost all popular programming languages.
    Extensive Plugin system and third party integrations with IDEs and other tools.
    Advanced search capabilities.
    Cross platform availability.

    Cons: No cons, its a simple yet advanced FOSS utility must have for power users.

    Overall: I have used Vim for a long time for UNIX systems but couple of years back shifted to it on Windows as well. Reasons being no other free text editor was able to open large size log files. Vim handles any size and format files you throw into it.
