"OpenEduCat Delivers Simplicity and Structure for Modern Educational Management" Posted 2025-05-16
Pros: The centralized system connects administrators, students, teachers, and parents, promoting transparency and real-time access to educational data. Its affordability and cloud-based accessibility make it especially practical for growing institutions, while its open-source framework allows for deeper customization when required.
Cons: Some modules lack deep customization out of the box, requiring additional development. The documentation, though improving, could be more comprehensive for non technical users, particularly when navigating integrations or advanced reporting. Additionally, occasional performance slowdowns may occur during high-traffic periods if not properly optimized.
Overall: While there’s room for improvement in documentation and customization, the platform delivers strong value, particularly at its accessible pricing. From a consulting perspective, it's a practical and future ready choice for institutions undergoing digital transformation.

Pros: The ability to customize your needs adds the ability to Power your School and fueling your information with data. The cloud has long since been a revolution for schools needing options and flexibility to do business in their own way. OpenEducat was one on the first players in that game and was one of the easiest programs to setup, run and host.
Cons: OpenEducat occasionally misses the mark with some functions and could use a bit of tweaking to user interfaces and design that would make the functionality even better for Schools to use as a Power tool. State reporting is usually the bane of every data managers existence and attention to this area would when over many a fans.
Overall: As the schools grow so can your OpenEducat. In my particular environment I often have to bend OpenEducat to meet the needs of varying schedules, GPA calculations and grade scales often within the same grade level of school building. OpenEducat has often been up to the task with a little ingenuity implied.

"Easy to use and robust student information system" Posted 2025-02-23
Pros: OpenEduCat has been a great system for my school. The system is intuitive and easy to learn and utilize. Hubhelp and OpenEduCat Space are very helpful, and the tech support is great. What I love most is the create a report feature. It is very helpful for pulling the data that I need and want. Our school previously used a different SIS and it was not easy for parents. OpenEduCat is a much better experience for staff and families.
Cons: There is nothing specific I don't like about OpenEduCat but one thing I wish they would add is to somehow integrate with our student management system HallPass. I believe there is a SchoolPass integration but other options would be great.
Overall: It's fairly user friendly. I like that you can go back easily to past days to change attendance. Its easy to use to enter basic information. The more I use it the more user friendly I find it. Customer service has been very helpful in finding solutions. I am a frequent user so my knowledge is growing.

"Good solution for smaller colleges" Posted 2025-02-21
Pros: We are able to use the system campus-wide for most of our student, faculty, and staff needs. It's nice to have one product that can handle most of our day-to-day activities.
Cons: The most challenging things about the system is that many of the canned reports need customized in order to use efficiently. Customizations can be difficult and time consuming to get completed.
Support is difficult to secure timely.Overall: OpenEduCat allows us to craft department specific reports on the backend to speed up our processing in small departments. Instead of hiring more staff, we can leverage the data and reports to provide the analysis we need to make our next move in student engagement, faculty needs as well as staff processes.

"Great tool - Helped us organize data and improve communication" Posted 2025-02-09
Pros: The navigation is simple and allows for faculty/staff/students/parents all the ability to easily locate where they need to be in the system. We incorporated the LMS and Tuition Management components as well, and the school enjoys housing all of our student data in one system.
Cons: The gradebook portion can be finicky and leads to some frustrations from the faculty. Some saved preference settings do not stay saved.
Overall: It allows for us to store all of our data in one system. It allows for many employees to pull up the data and run reports without having a designated person to perform these actions like in the past.

"Considered One of the Best" Posted 2025-02-07
Pros: As a district librarian, I appreciate the global capabilities that can align all of the schools in my district. I like the ease of use. Overall, I have had great customer service experiences, as well. As a tool that we use daily, it is a common language that we can all share. The business office staff likes that that can use the various features to do things like assign fines for most of the departments in the district.
Cons: With the changes at OpenEduCat and the split between content and software, there is a noticeable difference in the support aspect. For the price, I am aware the many districts in my state are seeking alternatives and choosing to use other library management software. I am sure that we are not too far behind, especially since adding something like Resource Manager would be something that most district cannot afford.
Overall: We are using it to assess fines, which is helpful because we don't have an alternative, but also, LM makes is making that feature more and more difficult, in an effort, it seems to get organizations to also purchase Resource Manager.

Cons: The lack of customization within our own environment which is completely understandable when dealing with a product of this size.
Overall: It helps me communicate lesson plans, learning goals, success criteria, and assessments. Through it, I can communicate with staff, students, parents, and the whole school community. It is a place of connection and a way to build community as a whole school.

"OpenEduCat - An Easy to Use LMS" Posted 2025-01-26
Pros: Easy to set up and implement system, user friendly, great for repository of information; easy to train faculty and students; can add institutional branding, can use for variety of things such as courses, program review, student workspaces, faculty workspaces, curriculum management, etc.
Cons: Does not have all of the functionality of more robust LMS systems, doesn't offer many customization tools, layout is a bit archaic; importing and exporting courses take several steps and the process is very clunky. Customer Support is lacking and takes a great deal of time to get answers for issues.
Overall: We use OpenEduCat primarily to offer courses to students; we also use OpenEduCat to house our program review and curriculum management processes. OpenEduCat helps us organize information and have a centralized place to direct students, faculty, and admin to work through key processes. Because OpenEduCat is so easy to use it has been a breeze to train all users on using the system.

"Versatile learning management platform" Posted 2025-01-24
Pros: The flexibility of the platform is catering for different organisational needs. We are a development organisation with several programmes, some of which do not even fit the learning part, such as workshop facilitation or discussion forums, and with the features and the ability to integrate with other platforms, we are still able to support learning, collaboration, etc. It is also easy to use by our beneficiaries and internal teams, and with the support of an expert service provider, Open Learning Technologies, it was easy to drive our programmes and thus implement without many challenges.
Cons: Without internal technical expertise, it requires dependency of a service provider and this may be costly, even if it is open access.
Overall: We have digitised our education development progamme for teachers in rural areas with the intention of easy scaling to cover more schools

"An Alright Tool for Schooling" Posted 2025-01-17
Pros: Active tracking of assignments and deadlines is easy to do. All of my classes were consolidated in a single web portal, so I could access assignments and documents from any location, even my smart phone. I think that the forum options are the most useful as a tool for class discussion.
Cons: The user interface can be buggy, and often experiences formatting errors and update delays. It is not particularly intuitive organizationally, but that could have to do with the way it was set up.
Overall: For what its designed to do, its an effective tool that is used almost ubiquitously throughout college campuses. That probably won't be changing any time soon.

"Great for classes and professional support" Edited 2025-01-16
Pros: We use this in 2 ways: first we use it for individual classes. Teachers can provide lesson resources and lesson activities in an organized manner. Students can access these resources at all times and it is very easy for the teachers to upload, organize, and save everything. As a teacher I use it at least weekly for my classes especially for longer assignments or providing additional resources for students.
We also use it for professional support. My school district uses it to share the curriculum resources (daily lessons, assessment blueprints, year and unit plans, etc) with all the teachers. It is also easy to organize and access the previous year's curriculum in the same group.Cons: Some of the outside resources do not integrate seamlessly.
Overall: Keeping all resources for classes organized and easily accessible and the same for keeping all curriculum support organized and easily accessible.
