Apache OpenOffice

Pros: A suite of office-ready applications, of which the most valuable are the Open Office Writer for documents and Open Office Calc for spreadsheets.

Cons: Both the Writer and Calc tend to crash a lot. Some difficulties also in picking up and amending MS Word documents to edit in Open Office Writer, especially with regard to formatting.

Overall: Overall, I favour Apache OpenOffice (the free version) for my business operations, as it is a straightforward, easy to install and use programme and it does not cost much to implement or maintain. The frequent crashing is a problem, but I expect that this problem can be resolved with a little work and advice.

Pros: Clear easy to use. Works without any software problems. Extremely fast processing speed. Works well with my other programs.

Cons: I have run into no cons in using this product, I have been using successfully for many years. I only use it twice per year. It never causes me any problems. Nothing but positive results all the time.

Overall: So enjoyable to use and clear easy procedures for use. Streamlined quick operating procedures. Works perfectly with my other office machines, Printers etc.

Cons: Lack of support for editing and saving in newer office extensions (especially xlsx)
Some formatting issues after editing.

Overall: Apache OpenOffice is definitely not as polished or feature rich as MS Office but for individuals or even professionals looking to just view office files and do basic editing, OpenOffice is a no-brainer.

Pros: There are a few advantages of Apache OpenOffice. One is that it is free and open source software, which means that it can be used and modified at no cost. Cons: Probably the only thing that I could say is that it doesn't always seem to be as stable as some of the other office software options that are available.

Pros: It's free to use all features and it can also open MS Word doc files. You can use it on Mac and PC and can open all other file types.

Cons: It looks like an outdated version of MS Word, however all the features are up to date and work well.

Overall: I use OpenOffice on new PCs where I do not feel the need to purchase the MS alternative. For a free program, OpenOffice gives you everything you need to create word documents and ensure others can open and view/edit them.

Pros: This is a great and free alternative to Microsoft Office. No up front payments, no subscriptions, no constant nagging to upgrade a cloud storage - just good old basic document editing!

Cons: It's hard to complain about this, but the user interface is outdated. It could use a fresh coat of paint. It wouldn't be bad if it would adopt the "search tool" feature from MS Office Tools either. But then again...this is free!
