"Great software for designing print resources "

    Posted 2022-08-06

Pros: - huge variety of tools to create page layouts for physical and digital magazines
    - wide variety of preset layout types, for brochures, magazines, books, etc.
    - lots of export formats, including pdf
    - price is not unreasonable compared to competitors

Cons: - fairly steep learning curve and the interface can be hard to use for beginners

Overall: InDesign allows creators to design print layouts and export them in a variety of formats. It has a huge toolbox and a large library of presets. It is a bit hard to learn, though.

    "Affordable but buggy"

    Posted 2022-02-09

Pros: This is extremely versatile useful when it decides to work. The subscription is only about $20 a month, which is not bad at all.

Cons: Usually crashed or would recall a project and immediately say the project is unreachable.

Overall: I wouldn't go back to it. Canva is a better way to design what I want for what I use it for. But if you can get it to run, it's a good product.

Pros: Adobe InDesign is the industry leader for desktop publishing. It's loaded with features and continues to improve with each update they release.

Cons: There is a steep learning curve to using the software if you've never used it before.

Overall: Overall, Adobe InDesign is one of 3 programs I use all day every day. It is extremely versatile and robust, and it allows me to open a file that someone else has started and make any necessary edits.

    "The Gold Standard"

    Posted 2021-07-19

Pros: After using InDesign for 10+ years, I find it to be so intuitive. Continuous text boxes are so easy, the smart guide system is awesome, super easy to track down broken linked graphics.

Cons: Embarrassingly, it took me years to figure out that the reason my PDFs always saved with pixelated graphics was because of a compression setting in the Export window - it doesn't make a lot of sense to me that the default option would be majorly compressed. But that was kind of a personal problem/operator error!

Overall: InDesign is my absolute gold standard, I use it for nearly everything. As a graphic designer in the education sector, a lot of my designs are applications, forms, pamphlets, flyers, booklets, etc. and InDesign has never let me down. It's easy to navigate through pages, the workspace isn't crowded or cluttered at all. Me + InDesign = 'til death do us part!

    "For content writing "

    Posted 2021-02-04

Pros: If you want to make sure the content and the appearance of what you write looks appealing and interesting you should go for it.
Easy to use and plenty of tools for the best experience.

Cons: It could be cheaper, and the option of direct publication should e there.
Other than this, it is quite amazing.

Overall: It gets frequent updates. Moreover, you can share it with just one click and remotely contribute or edit your content. IT is easy and simple to understand, and one can easily use it.

"The start to finish solution for any design that involves pages."

    Posted 2020-06-10

Pros: InDesign makes it very simple to handle multi page designs like user manuals, brochures, magazines etc. that have multiple sections with separate layouts and themes. Definitely a better tool than using Photoshop.

Cons: You're in for a frustrating experience of you're coming from Photoshop. InDesign is great but takes time to get used to.

Overall: I have designed sponsorship brochures and college magazines in InDesign, despite the learning curve, it's definitely better than using Photoshop for everything, especially with all the printing involved.

    "Top of the line"

    Posted 2020-06-06

Pros: I love how flexible InDesign is and the ease with which I can create polished marketing materials, whether for pitch decks, brochures, or promotional posters! InDesign plays well with other members of the Adobe Creative Suite too, so I can use Photoshop to touch up images from events, Illustrator to design vector logos, and bring it all together with InDesign.

Cons: With great power comes great responsibility! Or in this case, with great capabilities comes many different tools and buttons, lots to learn before fully mastering the advanced capabilities. Also, like lots of other Adobe software, the versioning is a bit terrible and you easily end up with multiple older versions on your computer :(

Overall: One of the best editing and design softwares I've used, definitely not going back to creating trifold pamphlets etc in Microsoft Word and struggling with horizontal layout + software limits on the margins. Also, so many different fonts and placement options without worrying about snapping to grid etc :o

"If you're designing a magazine, this is what you need. "

    Posted 2020-06-04

Pros: - Every aspect of magazine design is exhaustively covered in this software. The printing options are industry standard and all printers recognize them.
    - Excellent community of designers and teachers online that can help you get started with this software.

Cons: - The learning curve can be very steep for beginners, even for those with photoshop background, the layering system can be quite difficult to get used to.

Overall: I had used InDesign when I was designing a university newsletter and it would have been a nightmare without the features and the support this software provided.

"All the tools required for magazine design combined into one"

    Posted 2020-05-24

Pros: - Adobe InDesign makes a daunting task like magazine and digital layout design possible to be handled entirely by individuals.
    - The number of resolutions, qualities and printing options supported is quite exhaustive.
    - Adobe InDesign has a very rich community of designers and users teaching how to use the tool and sharing several insights making it easier for any designer to get started.

Cons: - The layering feature is quite different from photoshop and causes a lot of confusion even to fairly experienced users.
    - The software overall has a sharper learning curve and some tools can be really non-intuitive. Even for people with a Photoshop background this can be daunting to get used to.

Overall: I have used InDesign to create an entire college magazine and get it printed with the top most quality standards. It also integrates very well with other software in the Adobe suite like Photoshop and Illustrator. Overall an amazing tool despite being hard to get used to.
