Random BackGround is a Slideshow tool for Windows 95 and above with features to rival Windows 7. With Random BackGround, you can select a folder of images to cycle through in a non-repeating, random set. A wide range of intervals, from 10 seconds to Never along with picture positioning of Fill, Fit, Stretch, Tile, and Center, let you make the most of your desktop. Added integration into Windows Explorer lets you set a specific background, and a simple tray icon gives you quick access to a new background and the settings dialog. An automatic update system is included in the About dialog for user convenience. Multimonitor users will be pleased to have the option to have different backgrounds on each monitor, with each background resized individually for each screen, from one of five positionings. Webcamgrab randomly pulls a JPG image from a user maintained list of webcams and saves it to a specific file and location. Since the file name and location do not change, it can be selected for wallpaper. Written in Python 2.6, For Linux only, You will need to install or have installed Python and lynx (your Linux distro should offer them), I am using webcamgrab in Gnome 2. It should work with any GUI which lets you select a JPG for wallpaper, Can be launched once at start up or manually if desired. For true elegance can be launched using cron or Evolution's calendar or other timed launcher however often you like (I use Evolution's calendar and it works fine), webcamgrab is not interactive - once configured you can leave it alone. Assumed path names are /usr/bin for lynx and ~/Public for webcamgrab's files. If you would change these paths just modify the Python code in webcamgrab.py with the text editor of your choice.
