Open Source Live CD Distros

Rescatux is a GNU/Linux repair cd (and eventually also Windows) but it is not like other rescue disks. Rescatux comes with Rescapp. Rescapp is a nice wizard that will guide you through your rescue and repair tasks. When the wizard is not able to solve your problem you can also enjoy of Rescatux unique support features: * Chat: Open the chat for asking help directly in Rescatux channel. * Share log: After running an option you can share its log (the action registry that it has done) so that in the chat they can help you better. O better, even, you can help debug and fix Rescatux bugs on the fly. * Share log on forum: Prepares a forum post alike text so that you can just copy and paste it in your favourite forum. Logs are nicely inserted into it with [CODE] symbols. * Boot Info Script: Run Boot Info Script option to share your computer configuration (specially boot one).

A JBD is a bootable CD that, in turn, boots a Slackware Linux system that is on a device connected to a personal computer. A JBD also serves as a handy Live CD for rescue, repair or whatever purpose you find for it.

Sunflower Sysadmin Toolkit Live CD(SST) is a Live CD for system administrators to rescue, maintain, and troubleshoot production systems. SST can help sysadmins recover disks data, monitor system and network performance, upgrade firmware, etc..

BG-Rescue Linux is a very small Linux distribution (download-size < 20MB) which is intended mainly for rescue purposes. The system runs entirely in ram and can be booted either from usb-stick or cdrom. It can be booted either on BIOS or UEFI hardware. Besides i386 it also includes a 64bit Linux kernel generating the possibility to chroot into a 64bit (amd64) userspace environment. The system can serve as a full rescue / backup / restore system for Linux or Windows based computers or to facilitate the installation of a recent Debian oder Ubuntu Linux via debootstrap. All the relevant major filesystems and many network cards are supported as well as mounting samba (cifs) and nfs shares over network. A wide range of disk- and filesystem utilities as well as strong compression tools are integrated, including a 64bit version of lrzip. A graphical frontend (ytree) is also included.

Partylog2 is a Graylog2 appliance ready to install or boot in LiveCD mode. Its based in TurnKey Linux (TurnKey Core 12) which is based in Debian 6.

GaryOS is an entire GNU/Linux system in a single bootable file. It is also a Builder system to create and package Gentoo installations. Builder creates custom root filesystems that GaryOS can load into memory in place of its own. GaryOS can build new or updated versions of itself from within itself. Primary uses: * System rescue and recovery * Anonymous and secure workstation * GNU/Linux learning environment * Installation of Gentoo Unique advantages: * Source-based distributions are more flexible and powerful than binary ones * A single Kernel file is easier to manage and boot than an ISO image * GaryOS is stored on media as a resident of it, not the purpose of it No other GNU/Linux distribution takes the same approach or has the same features as GaryOS.

Compensato is full suite of diagnostic and troubleshooting tools (focused on troubleshooting Windows environments at the moment) that runs from an Ubuntu based Linux live environment. Once booted a browser winow will launch and the program will automatically look for a Windows installation to work with. You should be able to have this Windows installation visible to the system either internally or externally.

Enterprise is a custom UEFI bootloader designed to load Linux distributions directly from ISO files on Apple Mac computers (even those without UEFI booting support). It is designed to compliment Mac Linux USB Loader, though it can also be used separately (albeit with some setup work). The purpose of Enterprise is as the first stage in a two-stage booting process for Mac Linux USB Loader-created USB drives. Essentially, Enterprise loads GRUB, giving it configuration settings and the location of necessary files inside of the desired ISO, and then the distribution is booted. Enterprise will soon support booting multiple distributions, so you can have more than one distribution per USB stick. This way, you can test out multiple distributions.
