AlphaZero.jl
A generic, simple and fast implementation of Deepmind's AlphaZero
Beyond its much publicized success in attaining superhuman level at games such as Chess and Go, DeepMind's AlphaZero algorithm illustrates a more general methodology of combining learning and search to explore large combinatorial spaces effectively. We believe that this methodology can have exciting applications in many different research areas. Because AlphaZero is resource-hungry, successful open-source implementations (such as Leela Zero) are written in low-level languages (such as C++) and optimized for highly distributed computing environments. This makes them hardly accessible for students, researchers and hackers. Many simple Python implementations can be found on Github, but none of them is able to beat a reasonable baseline on games such as Othello or Connect Four. As an illustration, the benchmark in the README of the most popular of them only features a random baseline, along with a greedy baseline that does not appear to be significantly stronger. -

Julia already has a rich set of plotting tools in the form of the Plots and Makie ecosystems, and various backends for these. So why another plotting package? InteractiveViz is not a replacement for Plots or Makie, but rather a graphics pipeline system developed on top of Makie. It has a few objectives. To provide a simple API to visualize large or possibly infinite datasets (tens of millions of data points) easily. To enable interactivity, and be responsive even with large amounts of data. To render perceptually accurate summaries at large scale, allowing drill down to individual data points. To allow generation of data points on demand through a graphics pipeline, requiring computation only at a level of detail appropriate for display at the viewing resolution. Additional data points can be generated on demand when zooming or panning. This package was partly inspired by the excellent Datashader package available in the Python ecosystem. -

MultivariatePolynomials.jl is an implementation-independent library for manipulating multivariate polynomials. It defines abstract types and an API for multivariate monomials, terms, and polynomials and gives default implementation for common operations on them using the API. On the one hand, This packages allows you to implement algorithms on multivariate polynomials that will be independant on the representation of the polynomial that will be chosen by the user. On the other hand, it allows the user to easily switch between different representations of polynomials to see which one is faster for the algorithm that he is using. -

This repository holds slides and code for a full Bayesian statistics graduate course. Bayesian statistics is an approach to inferential statistics based on Bayes' theorem, where available knowledge about parameters in a statistical model is updated with the information in observed data. The background knowledge is expressed as a prior distribution and combined with observational data in the form of a likelihood function to determine the posterior distribution. The posterior can also be used for making predictions about future events. Bayesian statistics is a departure from classical inferential statistics that prohibits probability statements about parameters and is based on asymptotically sampling infinite samples from a theoretical population and finding parameter values that maximize the likelihood function. Mostly notorious is null-hypothesis significance testing (NHST) based on p-values. -

This package represents a community effort to centralize the definition and implementation of loss functions in Julia. As such, it is a part of the JuliaML ecosystem. The sole purpose of this package is to provide an efficient and extensible implementation of various loss functions used throughout Machine Learning (ML). It is thus intended to serve as a special purpose back-end for other ML libraries that require losses to accomplish their tasks. To that end we provide a considerable amount of carefully implemented loss functions, as well as an API to query their properties (e.g. convexity). Furthermore, we expose methods to compute their values, derivatives, and second derivatives for single observations as well as arbitrarily sized arrays of observations. In the case of arrays a user additionally has the ability to define if and how element-wise results are averaged or summed over. -

ReactiveMP.jl is a Julia package that provides an efficient reactive message passing based Bayesian inference engine on a factor graph. The package is a part of the bigger and user-friendly ecosystem for automatic Bayesian inference called RxInfer. While ReactiveMP.jl exports only the inference engine, RxInfer provides convenient tools for model and inference constraints specification as well as routines for running efficient inference both for static and real-time datasets. -

RuntimeGeneratedFunctions are functions generated at runtime without world-age issues and with the full performance of a standard Julia anonymous function. This builds functions in a way that avoids eval. For technical reasons, RuntimeGeneratedFunctions needs to cache the function expression in a global variable within some module. This is normally transparent to the user, but if the RuntimeGeneratedFunction is evaluated during module precompilation, the cache module must be explicitly set to the module currently being precompiled. This is relevant for helper functions in some modules that construct a RuntimeGeneratedFunction on behalf of the user. -

Tullio is a very flexible einsum macro. It understands many array operations written in index notation -- not just matrix multiplication and permutations, but also convolutions, stencils, scatter/gather, and broadcasting. Used by itself the macro writes ordinary nested loops much like Einsum.@einsum. One difference is that it can parse more expressions, and infer ranges for their indices. Another is that it will use multi-threading (via Threads.@spawn) and recursive tiling, on large enough arrays. -

Automatic C interfacing for Julia
Use CBinding.jl to automatically create C library bindings with Julia at runtime. In order to support the fully automatic conversion and avoid name collisions, the names of C types or functions are mangled a bit to work in Julia. Therefore everything generated by CBinding.jl can be accessed with the c"..." string macro to indicate that it lives in C-land. As an example, the function func above is available in Julia as c"func". It is possible to store the generated bindings to more user-friendly names (this can sometimes be automated, see the j option). Placing each C declaration in its own macro helps when doing this manually. -

The ApproxFun Documentation contains detailed information, or read on for a brief overview of the package. The documentation contains examples of usage, such as solving ordinary and partial differential equations. The ApproxFun Examples repo contains many examples of using this package, in Jupyter notebooks and Julia scripts. Note that this is independently maintained, so it might not always be in sync with the latest version of ApproxFun. We recommend checking the examples in the documentation first, as these will always be compatible with the latest version of the package. -

PackageCompiler
Compile your Julia Package
Julia is, in general, a "just-barely-ahead-of-time" compiled language. When you call a function for the first time, Julia compiles it for precisely the types of arguments given. This can take some time. All subsequent calls within that same session use this fast compiled function, but if you restart Julia you lose all the compiled work. PackageCompiler allows you to do this work upfront — further ahead of time — and store the results for a lower latency startup. You can save loaded packages and compiled functions into a file (called a sysimage) that you pass to Julia upon startup. Typically the goal is to reduce latency on your machine; for example, you could load the packages and compile the functions used in common plotting workflows using that saved image by default. In general, sysimages are not relocatable to other machines; they'll only work on the machine they were created on. -

REDUCE is a portable general-purpose computer algebra system. It is a system for doing scalar, vector and matrix algebra by computer, which also supports arbitrary precision numerical approximation and interfaces to gnuplot to provide graphics. It can be used interactively for simple calculations (as illustrated in the screenshot below) but also provides a full programming language, with a syntax similar to other modern programming languages. REDUCE supports alternative user interfaces including Run-REDUCE, TeXmacs and GNU Emacs. REDUCE (and its complete source code) is available free of charge for most common computing systems, in some cases in more than one version for the same machine. The manual and other support documents and tutorials are also included in the distributions. -

The ChainRules package provides a variety of common utilities that can be used by downstream automatic differentiation (AD) tools to define and execute forward-, reverse--, and mixed-mode primitives. The core logic of ChainRules is implemented in ChainRulesCore.jl. To add ChainRules support to your package, by defining new rules or frules, you only need to depend on the very light-weight package ChainRulesCore.jl.
