Impro-Visor® is a music notation tool for producing monophonic lead sheets, specifically intended to help the improviser. Chord symbols are used to generate backing tracks automatically. Improvisation advice exists in the form of note coloration, database of licks, and automatic lick generation from grammars. Grammars can be learned automatically from transcriptions. Styles can be edited and created by the user. Other features include generation of roadmaps for understanding keys and idiomatic chord progressions, chord voicing keyboard, MIDI and MusicXML export. Jalmus is a free, open source music education software helping the musicians, especially pianists, to improve their sight-reading. You can train to read music with both exercises on notes or rhythms.

The main purpose of NoteTrainer PRO is developing the ability of quickly reading and playing notes "at sight." The program generates a random sequence of notes in the range selected by the user, and controls the speed and accuracy of their playing. Instead of random notes can be loaded not very complex melodies in MusicXML format and practice by studying them. ChordEase makes it easier to improvise over complicated chord progressions. No matter what the chords are, you can play as if they were all in the key of C. You don't need to play sharps or flats, because ChordEase automatically adds them for you. Though ChordEase is intended for jazz, it could be useful for any type of music that modulates frequently. ChordEase alters your notes in real time in order to make them harmonically correct, while preserving their rhythm and dynamics. By delegating rapid music theory calculations to ChordEase, you gain freedom to concentrate on other aspects of improvisation and performance, such as feel and aesthetics. ChordEase is a translator that takes MIDI notes as input, and produces MIDI notes as output. The input notes are mapped to the current chord scale in various ways, so that the output notes fit the chord progression of a song. Multiple performers can play through a single instance of ChordEase, using any number of MIDI instruments.

NotesTyper system converts text typing into music. You will need computer keyboard, microphone (notebook mic is ok) and Chrome or Firefox browser. NotesTyper has multiple operating modes and settings, which allow to produce different music from same text. Computer keyboards do no allow to input keypress velocity, but NotesTyper overcomes this restriction by processing microphone input level when you type. When generating music all nuances of your typing are taken into account: what keys were pressed, exact timings of all key presses and key releases, velocity (loudness) of typing. Pymprovisator is a program for jazz musicians. Jazz music is based on improvisation and this program is intended to help musicians to improvise. The user sets the song parameters and the program generates a MIDI file with an adequate accompaniment.

Score Reading Trainer helps you improve your (musical) score reading skills by practicing with random scores. It shows you a random score and you have to press the matching note for it.

The MIDI Sight Reader Java Applet works again! To use it you should use Firefox with Java Applet Plug-in installed. Developed using Firefox 25.0.1 and Java 7, Update 51. So what is it? Well it scrolls random notes within a selected key, playing them aloud for audio confirmation, while you, the user, play the notes on your instrument. There is no MIDI interface, the name refers to MIDI because it uses the Java Midi API and organizes everything numerically, according to MIDI numbers. The application plays the notes aloud as they pass under the centerline of the application window. So you adjust the scrolling speed and time between new notes and then play each note before the application echos it back to you. It also scrolls guitar tablature, as can be seen in the video. The keyboard and guitar models are linked so that playing a note on the piano keyboard (clicking a key) causes the guitar neck to display all the locations of the same note on the guitar neck.

He could combine his two hobbies for the greater good. He had seen other apps that made piano playing enjoyable, but they either cost money or had become abandoned.
