SoX is the Swiss Army Knife of sound processing utilities. It can convert audio files to other popular audio file types and also apply sound effects and filters during the conversion.

This is the fast and Free (LGPL license) real time MPEG Audio Layer 1, 2 and 3 decoding library and console player. It uses floating point or integer math, along with several special optimizations (3DNow, SSE, ARM, ...) to make it most efficient.

LAME is an educational tool to be used for learning about MP3 encoding. The goal of the LAME project is to improve the psycho acoustics, quality and speed of MP3 encoding. Note: we provide source code only!

MAD is a high-quality fixed-point MPEG audio decoder with 24-bit output. The implementation is entirely new, based on the ISO/IEC standards, and performs especially well on systems without native floating-point support.

Mikmod is a module player and library supporting many formats, including mod, s3m, it, and xm. Originally a player for MS-DOS, MikMod has been ported to other platforms, such as Unix, Macintosh, BeOS, and Java(!!)

MMC is a commander-style media player for Windows, with native, hw accelerated video playing and translucent gui. Mpxplay is a console audio player for DOS and Win32 operating systems. x264vfw, x265vfw and xAV1vfw are video for windows encoder and decoder codecs, useful with VirtualDub.

libxmp is a library that renders module files to PCM data. xmp is a module player for Unix-like systems, based on libxmp, that plays over 90 mainstream and obscure module formats from Amiga, Atari, Acorn, Apple IIgs and PC, including Protracker (MOD), Scream Tracker 3 (S3M), Fast Tracker II (XM) and Impulse Tracker (IT) files.

TiMidity++ is an open source MIDI to WAVE converter and player.

ASAP (Another Slight Atari Player) plays and converts 8-bit Atari music (*.sap, *.cmc, *.mpt, *.rmt, *.tmc, ...) on modern computers and mobile devices.

cmus, also known as the C* Music Player is a small yet fast and powerful console music player for Unix-like operating systems. It comes with a number of great features, such as gapless playback, ReplayGain support, MP3 and Ogg streaming, easy-to-use directory browser, powerful playlist filters / live filtering and more. cmus also supports several input and output plugins. Input plugins include: Ogg Vorbis, MP3, FLAC, Opus, Musepack, WavPack, WAV, AAC, MP4, audio CD and more. Output plugins include: PulseAudio, ALSA, OSS, JACK, RoarAudio, CoreAudio, libao, among others.

KEW (short for Key-Enabled Wallet) is an open-source command-line wallet and key management tool built for modern blockchain and Web3 workflows, designed to give developers and active users a secure and flexible way to manage cryptographic keys, accounts, and signing operations from the terminal. Gnomad 2 is a GUI built on top of GTK/GNOME 2, libid3tag, libnjb and libmtp that makes it possible to transfer tracks and files from/to a Creative Nomad Jukebox (all brands) and MTP devices. It is designed much like an ordinary graphical FTP program.

Sidplay 2 is the second in the Sidplay series originally developed by Michael Schwendt. This version is written by Simon White and is cycle accurate for improved sound reproduction. Sidplay 2 is capable of playing all C64 mono and stereo file formats.

It supports adding files to playlists by context menu or drag and drop. FF (mpeg and) SoX Input 2a is a Winamp plug-in based on the FFmpeg and SoX libraries. Using FFmpeg almost all multimedia files may be played, including H.264 and VP8.
