MATTHIAS ZIMMERMANN — 'Vincente' [full preview] by soundpellegrino

Release date: November 5th
After landing on the scene last year with his first Sound Pellegrino release “Isla Dub”, and exercising his unique combination of war drums, electromechanical symphonies and earth sounds on such highly respectable labels as Tigersushi and Discobelle, gaining the respect of peers such as Hudson Mohawke, Martyn, Laurent Garnier, Joakim, Modeselektor, Ivan Smagghe, Boys Noize, Breakbot and many more in the process, German maestro MATTHIAS ZIMMERMANN is back for the third time on his newly-permanent home Sound Pellegrino.
Inpired by the wonderfully grandiose garden situated on the left bank of Paris known as Jardin des Plantes, here is Matthias Zimmermann’s latest offering, the “BOTANICA DUB” EP.
Built for the dancefloor, bearing the specificities of a proper organic techno tool but not devoid of subtle grooves and details, “Paul” is quite unusually ‘tracky’ for a Matthias Zimmermann track. It is as club-friendly as it is mental and hypnotizing, its mid-tempo pulse radiating with magnetic sex appeal.
“Quincy” picks up where Matthias’s spielbergian weirdo-hit from last year “Luther” left off. Hysterical drums, crunched and de-pitched to abstraction, unravelling what happens to be chopped up bird sounds Matthias himself sampled during his latest trip to the aforementioned Jardin des Plantes (we believe he deserves some sort of French national distinction for doing this), resulting in a rare broken banger.beating at 114bpm around a fantastic climactic core.
“Vincente” is the hidden gem of the “Botanica Dub” EP. Relentless drums built around a reconstructed filtered tear-jerking rainbow r&b guitar solo which will turn your world into a black neon French movie romance where you’ll be spinning and whirling in slow motion while holding your lover’s arms until you both take off and reach the stars. A nice way to wrap up this dreamy EP, the new theme songs for life on the colourful archipelago situated inside composer Matthias Zimmermann’s head.
