Battleship Boomer by Roses In December

Battleship Boomer was born from our disgust and anger that politicians and mainstream media were vilifying migrants throughout the build up to the General Election 2024. They whipped up a moral panic based on false or exaggerated information to divide and conquer. This had catastrophic consequences, and in our eyes is responsible for inciting the Summer Riots.
The lyrics funnel this by imagining a game of Battleship played by someone from the right-wing demographic, the boomer, versus someone from the left-wing demographic, a millenial/gen z. On the plastic ships of the boomer are super yachts and the mega-rich, whilst the millennial defends migrants and dinghies on their side of the board. In a hypocritical frenzy, the boomer demolishes all the millennials ships.
Battleship Boomer has a satirical feel to it, and was massively inspired by Viz Comics, we were very fortunate to work with Lee Healey (Viz Cartoonist) who created the artwork. To create that cartoonish almost frenzied sonic landscape, we crafted melodies with lots of strange scales based on works such as Edvard Grieg’s ‘In The Hall of The Mountain King’ and Danny Elfman’s Beetlejuice Soundtrack. We also used silly sound effects to create that cartoonish feel such as clown horn’s, the clatter of a computer’s keyboard, a fog horn, a megaphone during the chorus and many more.
