Thank You Various sound constructions varying in diversity from found sound sampling and orchestrated ambient sound textures to obscure vocal samples taken from film clips of antiquity. Various tonalities of vocals are also utilized to bring the bring the music to life creating a visual that in many respects reminds one of the old films of the forties & fifties with the news shorts appearing prior to the actual film. Almost a Twilight Zone affair mixing the past and present ideologies together to create a anthology of the ages via music. Who knows if that’s the intention of the artist but the imagery presented may be clear to you. The music gives you the impression that you’re listening in on someone else’s conversation. The tenor of these conversations ranges from the mystic (“They Do A Lot Of Worshipping Around Here”) to the truly disturbing (“Uncle Went Tending and Never Returned”). Part of this sense of “audio voyeurism” stems from the fact that PressureWorks draws the sonic material from intercepted short wave radio broadcasts. Folks who get into radio-inspired electro-acoustic music (think Dan Lander, for example) may be entranced by this stuff. You may be impressed with it for several reasons, not the least of which is the superb audio quality of the recording . On a more artistic level, you are truly drawn in by the rich sense of storytelling. Each of the pieces carries you along effortlessly through a sort of abstract narration. Enthusiasts of inventive experimental music are encouraged to check these recordings out. Assembling pieces from various recordings and turning the whole into new work. The approach is mostly ambient, favoring vocal samples as focus but remaining decidedly ephemeral. Just enough here to peak further interest.
