Jamie Garry’s biography Jamie Garry is a 52 year old DJ/Producer from Leeds Uk Who’s been DJING around 36 years starting when he was 13 years old on a pirate radio station in leeds called ABC FM. Before that Jamie would play everything from Queen, Chic and Micheal Jackson with a huge love of his thriller album. He first got into dance beats listening to early hip hop electro albums that he collected starting from electro 5 on tape then buying all the other albums on vinyl what he’d play on a old wooden gramophone that belong to his parents. He started listening to pirate radio where one day he got a request phone line number that he rang and told them he always wanted to be a DJ. Fortunately they met him as he explained where he lived and it wasn’t far from the radio station and it went from there with Jamie DJING most days playing hip hop and soul and then as he got older it was most evenings playing house music what he first heard from his brother who gave him a house sounds of Chicago tape. At 13 Jamie couldn’t mix two tracks together until at age 15 he accidentally mixed two tracks together and remembered the number on the pitch control and practiced with the same records every time he went to the radio station and Jamie honed is skills and before long could mix every record he played even speeding some slow records up from 33 to 45 so he could mix them together . Jamie’s dad recognised his talent and bought Jamie a set of technics 1210s when he was around 16 years old. Jamie’s mum spotted a advertisement in the local newspaper from a DJ agent called Barry Phillips so he got in contact and started playing wedding nights at pubs and one day did queens court what he loved so Jamie wanted to get out into the clubs where he believed he belong. Jamie constantly practiced mixing and scratching in his bedroom doing tapes and passing them to clubs and promoters and a blues In chapletown picked him up for around 7 months playing house music and Jamie was also still playing on radio until he got a break at a club called Hi Flyers next to the Queens hotel weekly along side big named DJs including Dave Seaman (Brothers In Rhythm) and even MTV was there at one of the nights and Jamie got a job in a record shop in Harrogate DJING behind the counter playing the vinyl for sale in the shop. Jamie then stated getting more and more noticed and played quite a lot of venues in leeds and London a night called SW1 along side DJs Fabio, Grooverider, LTJ Bukem, Colin Dale and more until one day he got his break in leeds by sending a demo tape to the promoters of one of the biggest nights in leeds and the uk called Up Yer Ronson who also had early nights named Kaos and Soak. He played along side names Sasha, John Digweed, Brandon Block, Graeme Park, Alister Whitehead and others where Jamie got a residency . Jamie got booked to play another huge night called Ark playing along side Carl Cox, X Press 2, Welly, DJ Sy, Rob Tissera and more He then started playing all over the world and all over the uk places everywhere from Nottingham, Bradford, Howden Amsterdam to Ibiza. Jamie was also booked regularly on a local radio station called Dream FM where he also played a few nights for them at The Mansion in Headingley, The Trades Club and the Town and county club for a charity night called Off The Street with a huge DJ line up and bands including Sisters Of Mercy, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry and the Utah Saints and they were a album for the night Jamie did included all for a good cause. The Ark and Up Yer Ronson nights finished but Jamie didn’t with his huge huge passion for music. Jamie was DJING and resident DJ at three nights Joi (Howden) Alchemy (York) and The Egg (The Pleasure Rooms leeds) playing along side the likes of Todd Terry.
