Half-Saved by Luca Fogale

Half-Saved discusses feelings of confusion and disorientation in regards to my relationship with the Catholic Church and the idea of being watched over by a judgemental God. The majority of my time spent as a Catholic involved feeling inadequate and deserving of punishment for being anything other than perfect in the eyes of the church, and as though there would never be any way to escape that. The first verse is a manic image of being surrounded by the voice/presence of God and trying to physically fight my way out of it, manifesting into a hallucinatory episode. The chorus lyrics are a question about how to ever completely be let go of the idea of being loved or saved by God, and how glorious and safe that must feel, but in a realization that only half of myself (the half that was able to completely commit to being a perfect follower of the church) was worthy or deserved of being loved, and that the other half would be cast aside. The second verse is a more calm and lucid image of the realization that I had never known the half of myself that was committed to God, standing at the altar and staring at hands that felt separate from my body, while also not recognizing the face of Jesus on the crucifix. However, this is followed by a feeling of being unable to escape the intense desire to be loved and accepted. Released March 29th, 2019 on Amelia Recordings
