Sluggo my hero by Ketchup Tears

Found him in the backyard, after the rain,
Crawlin’ through the clover, leavin’ silver stains.
I said, “Hey little fella, you don’t move fast,”
He said, “Kid, slow’s the way things last.”
Built him a track made of dirt and dreams,
Cheered him on under porch light beams.
Neighbors laughed, they said, “That slug’s too slow,”
But I saw fire in his gooey soul.
Packed our bags, crossed the sea,
A boy and his slug, two destinies.
[Chorus]
Sluggo won the race in France,
Crowd went mad, they screamed and danced.
Flashbulbs burnin’, champagne sprays,
They said, “Congrats, he’s dinner today.”
Oh no… oh no…
They said, “He’s dinner, no way!”
Chef wore white with a crooked grin,
Said, “Bon appétit, now let’s begin.”
I grabbed my friend, we hit the floor,
Slid through grease to the exit door.
They threw their knives, they cursed our names,
Sluggo slimed the window frame.
Out we dove into the night,
Paris rain and neon light.
He looked up, said, “Kid, we’re free.”
I said, “You’re more than food to me.”
[Chorus]
Sluggo won the race in France,
Crowd went mad, they screamed and danced.
Now the posters show his gooey face,
“Champion slug of the human race.”
Oh yeah… oh yeah…
But we’re long gone tonight.
In some muddy garden, back at home,
He’s chewin’ lettuce on a broken gnome.
I play my song, he hums along,
Sluggo and me — we can’t go wrong.
Sluggo won the race in France,
Crowd went mad, they screamed and danced.
We took the gold, then we took flight,
Escaped that kitchen light.
Yeah, Sluggo won, Sluggo won…
But he ain’t on no plate tonight.
Just a boy and his slug…
And a story that slid too far
