Jocelyn High
Jocelyn High started out as "Life of Riley" in 1992, but changed their name shortly after. Original members were Truls Nygaard, Arve Lystad, Lars-Jørgen Hansen and a drum machine. Kim Kølbæk and Jon Erik Martinsen joined after a short while. The debut concert was played at Folkets hus, Sarpsborg in the spring of 1993. During the two years that followed, Jocelyn High played between 30 and 40 concerts in Østfold and Oslo. Made lots of songs and disposed of lots of songs. Featured on "Unsigned 1", released by Norwegian musician's magazine "MusikkPraksis". In April 1995 Truls put the guitar away to concentrate on the vocals. Vegard joined. In May 1995 band the went into X-Ray Studios, Sarpsborg to record demo versions of "Stuntwoman" and a song called "Sha-La-La" (later titled "Shine" ). Jocelyn High and producer Pål Espen Johannessen agreed to record a CD. During November 1995 "Fruit Flavoured" is recorded at X-Ray Studios. Between recordings they made "Out of Joy", recorded it live and added it to the CD. May 1996 saw the release of "Fruit Flavoured" on Poppycock Records/MD (now:MNW). "Shine", by the way, was one of the songs on "The Independent Collection 1", releases by MD. "Shine" opened the doors a little bit for the band and they also got to play parts of Norway they hadn't had the chance to earlier. After "Fruit Flavoured", Jon Erik left the band to pursue his own synth/techno projects. Arve also left the band, but did not go on to other musical projects. The single "Never Know" (X-Ray Records/MNW) was released in April 1998 and was played quite a lot on national and local radio. The band spent most of 1999 recording new tracks at X-Ray Studios. A taste of that material was released as a single "The Drug", once again on X-Ray Records. After having been a quartet for a couple of years Truls, Kim, Lars and Vegard realised they wanted more guitars. Along came Håkon Mella. The band played a few concerts, with the last gig taking place in February 2000.
