Joan Reggae Drummer
DUB EXPLOSION available on all digital platforms. After a major collaboration last year with Aston Barret Jr for a special tribute to his uncle , Aston Barret (Bob Marley), one of my favorite drummer i am releasing my own production. This first debut EP "DUB Explosion" on the label Two Flames Records, a real explosion of DUB, where the common thread of the songs is the drums. JRD "DUB Explosion" is a 4 tracks EP of instrumental Dub with a totally different concept to what we are used to, as the songs were created from the drum grooves. First the drums were recorded alone with some reference and a clapperboard. The structures are clear, the rolls and all the percussive details are detailed , but the harmony and melodies were not there yet. Everything was recorded on audio and multi-camera at Ground Studios and then Joan started to work on the songs slowly, always respecting the pattern and the initial drum structures recorded at the beginning... Great musicians from different countries have participated in this EP: Guitar - Arturo Landaeta (Venezuela), Bass - Elie El Ossais (Australia), Keyboards - Ireneu Grosset (Spain), Nyahbinghi Drums - Mauricio Bongo (Brasil), Trombone & Trumpet- Pablo Martín (Spain), Tenor Sax - Tomy Muñoz (Spain), Bass - Miliu Llorach (Spain), Flute - Lluís Domenech (England), Bass - Joshua Jones (Jamaica), Keteh & Triangle - Aurel Cade (France), Trumpet - Glenn Holdaway (USA). Finally the production, the mixing and the Dubs was done by the pianist & sound engineer Ireneu Grosset at the analogical Studio of Dr. Dubwiser. It was quite an experience, as the studio has equipment very similar to the golden age of Reggae producers during the 70s in Jamaica . The icing on the cake was Xavier Lek who was in charge of the mastering. Joan is currently working on the live presentation of the EP, with a live visual and sound performance and a collaboration of artists such Roberto Sanchez (Lone-Ark), Alessandro Venturelli (Dasplanta) and some musicians who have already participated in the recording of the EP.
