Sunshine has always seemed to hold symbolic meaning – a message of hope, warmth, and healing, hinting at resolution. "Sunshine" attempts to recreate this literal and figurative atmosphere, allowing the listener to embark on a personal, almost spiritual journey. The piece begins with a replicated (tornado test) siren heard in Madison, WI, on Nov 2nd, 2022. The exact chord resulted from standing in an accidental sweet spot connecting the sounds of several nearby test sirens. The siren dies out, leaving a feeling of sitting in the sun, listening to your surroundings, and connecting to the day. It is almost meditative. The siren repeats, leading to a very bright and cheery moment that symbolizes the warmth and hope the sunshine creates. Suddenly, there's a shift harmonically, almost melancholy, and now you are chasing the sunshine that seems to be leaving. The constant motion in the piano is "you" or your inner self running, finally finding it once again and getting a glimpse of hope. The ending is a sigh and embracing of the moment you reunite with that sunshine.
