Born Matthew Johnson Ekeinde, Captain E was raised in an entertainment background. The Lagos native started his musical journey at the age of 9. Captain E debuted in 2015, releasing a hand full of singles most notably “Jekowale” featuring Seyi Shay. In 2016, Captain E would go on to be recognized as a sound engineer after he was nominated for the category for mixing and mastering Harrysong and Del B’s “Comsa”. He would later on work with various artists like General Pype, Mr Eazi, Wizkid, Eddy Kenzo and Runtown. Moving away from his Nigerian music roots and being heavily influenced by the European and Western culture, Captain E displayed his knack for reinvention by shifting to other genres like EDM, RnB, Trap and Pop. He would later go on to experiment with genre fusion particularly that of EDM and Afro-Pop, to create something he calls Afro-Electro. In 2017, he would release his first Afro-Electro single “Replay”. Fast forward to 2020 where he released his single “Only Option”.
