Springtime Shanty (Paul Sale - guitar, Fred Van Gestel - flutes and accordion) by Fred Van Gestel
published on
Last weekend I had a lot of fun with this lovely guitar improvisation. When I first heard it, I just had to grab that flute and play some Celtic and medieval tunes along with it.
Thanks to http://soundcloud.com/paul-sale for letting me play with his improvisation :)

My last upload was a call for the spring to come. Well, it has arrived (compare the pictures :) ). Last week snow finally disappeared and nature and people respire and smile again - Paul's tune is a wonderful reflection of that relief :)
This track is a personal premiere in two ways: it's my first SoundCloud collaboration and it is the first piece that is entirely recorded and mixed using a pc. Because my old hardware recorder cannot handle wav or mp3 files, I gave it a try on a notebook with MultitrackStudio and a cheap audio interface. Recording quality of the acoustic instruments still is way behind that good old Roland box (the setup produces a "humming" background sound), but in the mix they appear to be just fine.
I must admit that handling and work flow is much easier once I got used to it - I guess, I can beat that humming issue with another audio interface.
