Someone else's song Lyrics below the description. I wrote this song about 10 years ago and did nothing with myself. It was recorded by a Paramount Country Session singer in Nashville but it didn't really work and I forgot about it. However I found it languishing on my hard drive and decided to bring it to life again and now I believe it works well. Not everyone will understand the references to 'Lionel and Eric'. These are both about iconic tracks - Lionel Richie's Three times a lady and Eric Clapton's Wonderful Tonight - Very different in style to this track! Some lyrics were tweaked and the whole song re-arranged and re-recorded in a Jazz style. I really like it now and hope you do to! Lyrics There are some words, I need to say I have thought them for so long They explain the way I feel my gift to you this is my song I could play a track from my collection a Lionel Richie one Some of his words would fit the bill I guess but that’s someone else’s song I want to sing you my own words take the care to choose each one Words for our love, words for our happiness not someone else’s song Not someone else’s rights, not someone else’s wrongs Not someone else’s feelings not someone else’s song Lionel could tell you you’re three times a lady and for sure he won’t be wrong Eric would say that you look wonderful tonight but they are someone else’s songs A love as real, as life itself and every breath we take The sun that lights the morning sky can’t match that smile upon your face The way you make me feel inside like nothing else I’ve ever felt Waves rushing in, on the morning tide as deep into my arms you melt These words are mine, from me to you I hand picked every one You need to hear the way I feel not someone else’s song These are the words I had to say I had thought them for so long Another’s words they just won’t work the same for me Cos’ they’re in someone else’s song I could have played a track from my collection a Lionel Richie one Some of his words they’d fit the bill I guess but that’s someone else’s song I want to sing you my own words take the care to choose each one Words for our love, words for our happiness not someone else’s song Words for our love, words for our happiness not someone else’s song © Clive Pett 2025

I like the concept of this song. It’s got a classic 1950s feel but with. Contemporary sort of voice . Though the lyrics is classic in feel tooo. It’s jazz croon man. Frank or Tony could have done it!
