Water Moccasin The Water Moccasin is a snake that every East Texas kid grows up respecting or fearing. It's part of the riverine mythos. The image file is altered from a (beautiful) photo by Matthew Prosser, of the Sabine River near my childhood home. In addition to snakes and oil derricks, there were also alligators and alligator gar. It's a wonder none of us died in that river! But there were also herons, bald cypress trees, and plenty of other wonderful things that drew us back.
