bouvy - a tomboy's manifesto by bouvy

This is the first set that I ever recorded, quite a long time ago. Although I don’t fully align with it anymore, I still felt like sharing it today. The brief I was given for this project was to create a storytelling set on the theme of my choice. I decided to reflect on my journey growing up as a "girl”. As a kid, I was labeled “tomboy” , always doing “boy stuff”, but I also loved dancing and other things considered “girly”. Realising later that I don’t have to neatly fit into one box or the other helped me tremendously in understanding & accepting myself. And even though society has (somewhat) evolved, I’ve still too often had to fight to justify my place—simply because I am a femme*. So this is my way of telling that story, narrated by inspiring femmes* who challenge and push back against those societal limitations. It’s for the little tomboy kid in me, to tell her she belongs exactly as she is, that she deserves to take up space & thrive, no matter the job, sport, setting or situation. It’s for anyone who has ever felt confined by gender expectations —and yes, it’s also a bit of a middle finger to our dear patriarchal society. Enjoy xx
