BAW is a New Orleans piano trio that bridges the gap between ragtime, swing, and modern jazz. Three accomplished sidemen set out to record a trio album with all original composition that represents jazz throughout its history in New Orleans. This debut album is an exciting musical adventure that explores the dynamic possibilities between the Crescent City’s finest young players and their individual instruments. Pianist Jason Butler shows his exceptional talent with melodic phrases accompanying his brilliant chord harmonies. Butler’s style is complex, a modern jazz sound with a traditional tinge, in respects to his home city. Julian Addison was drumming before he could utter a word. Addison is a master drummer that has accomplished recordings in many world styles, including jazz, latin, rock, gospel, and funk. Addison’s drumming was an essential ingredient to creating the mood in each tune. Tom Witek has established his role in the group as bassist and composer. This trio album is Witek’s fourth album release as a bandleader and his first release in the jazz genre. Witek has worked with in many different music groups in New Orleans and New York playing jazz, funk, rock, and experimental. BAW has played private wedding parties in the New Orleans area and private events hosted by LiveNation House of Blues. BAW Trio will continue to perform in New Orleans, capturing the city’s jazz tradition and reinventing it with a modern twist.
