Background Noise Crew started in August of 2007, and is now celebrating its 5th year as a collective/label venture. Background Noise Crew consists of its core six members; Egypto Knuckles, Phingaz, T.Q.D, Analyrical, Status Reign and ToneKrusher Smith. As of recent, Background Noise Crew has expanded its operation to add on two new family members; JL Magee & Legend Has It. As an eight man operation, there are several duos within the collective; Green Sketch (T.Q.D & Phingaz), ZOMBIExZOMBIE (Legend Has It & JL Magee), and the newly-formed Truebadours (Phingaz & Analyrical). Together, they have had over 16 releases in 5 years, and have since done two tours along the Midwest and West Coast. Additionally they have been featured in such publications as City Pages, Pioneer Press, Star Tribune, URB Magazine, and Slug Magazine, as well as such online publications as Rap Reviews, Midwest Broadcast, Potholes In My Blog, Kevin Nottingham, amongst several others. The crew came to prominence with the release of its first odds-and-ends collection, “Everybody Made This, Vol. 1” which was well received amongst local and national press. Rap Reviews stated, “When people encounter large crews they usually rush to the Wu-Tang comparisons, but in this case I think the Background Noise Crew is more like another crew, Living Legends.” (Source: http://www.rapreviews.com/archive/2009_02_everybodyvol1.html) Additionally, Chris Riemenschneider of the Star Tribune had added on, “Their stuff ranges from playful De La/Tribe-style romps to stoner-ish Cypress Hill tracks to a couple of dark and experimental tracks.” (Source: http://www.startribune.com/printarticle/?id=16644871) With the release of “Everybody Does This, Vol. 2,” Background Noise Crew shows its innermost workings by keeping all the production in-house with Egypto Knuckles and Phingaz producing the entire album, and what’s given is a rich, diverse, and enjoyable listen for the 48-minute duration of the record. From comfortable mid-tempo head-nodding tunes, to enjoyable and fast-paced party jams, the Background Noise Crew is an ever-changing chameleon of a collective, showing off a great deal of range without sacrificing quality or cohesiveness. Together as an expanded collective, their hope is to exercise quality, and gaining fans in quantity in the process.
