Cry The New by William Yanesh

1. Will the old year soon be at our backs?
Are we singing, burning it down?
Is the old flame ready for the wax
Where the fire will drop and drown?
Are the old ghosts lying in the park
Under leaves and decades of dew?
Are the old fears ready for the dark
As we leave them and light the new?
R. With a hey, ho, leave it all behind.
There is nothing else we can do.
Take the old tears, put them from your mind,
And be ready to cry the new.
2. Are the old lies ringing in the square?
Are they living still in your head?
Are the old songs playing everywhere
In the voices of those long dead?
Is there still old poison in your brain?
Does it meet your no with a yes?
Let it go, for soon you will contain
All the wonder of some new mess.
R. With a hey, ho, leave it all behind.
There is nothing else we can do.
Take the old tears, put them from your mind,
And be ready to cry the new.
3. There are those who see the march of time
As the sweet return on an oath.
What they’re owed, they get upon the chime,
And begin one more year of growth.
For the rest, the clock is but a wheel,
And it never pauses to ring.
For the rest, a pendulum of steel
And no choice but to ever swing.
And they say the time will come around
When the grand design we will learn.
But, alas, there is no coming down.
There is only to turn and turn.
R. With a hey, ho, leave it all behind.
There is nothing else we can do.
Take the old tears, put them from your mind,
And be ready to cry the new.
