When techno parties first began, there was only ever one big floor. The art of the DJ was to get everyone dancing and lead the crowd into a state of collective ecstasy. That ideal still guides me today, which is why I don’t categorise music into strict genres. At the end of the day, it’s all electronic dance music – so I simply take what I like best and mix it together. I never use pre-arranged playlists. Every set I play is created live, in the moment, in dialogue with the dancefloor. When I play old-school, it’s exclusively on vinyl – with classic turntables, just like in the early days. For my current sound, however, I work with a Native Instruments S4 that has been hard- and software modified to my specifications – a customised setup that allows me to shape the music exactly the way I feel it, or the way the crowd calls for it. But it’s not about me as a DJ. I’m not the party – you are!
