Sonja Bahlenberg is a percussionist, composer, and sound artist with a focus on marimba, synthesizers, and computers. Since 2019, she has owned a rosewood marimba, which she uses to create music. In 2021, she formed the band Sonny and Vargen, playing original music. The group has performed in Örebro, Stockholm, and Gothenburg. Sonja composed and performed the piece ‘STENAR DROPPAR MÄNNISKAN - evighet formar ändlighet,’ which premiered at Gotlands Museum in Visby on May 17, 2023. She also composed a work called ‘Sinsemellan oss tre’ for clarinet, oboe, and bassoon, with each instrument having a soloistic role. Sonja explored the trio as a social constellation, investigating its dynamics. Currently, Sonja Bahlenberg resides in Malmö, where she is working on the project Hearing Test with support from the Swedish Arts Grants Committee. Originally a performance-based work, Sonja is now exploring how the project can be varied and adapted to different settings and formats. By experimenting more collaboratively in new environments, she seeks to expand the piece’s impact and engage audiences in fresh ways, delving deeper into the interplay between sound and perception.
