5Star Geez
Oakland
Emerging from the depths of Oakland California are three artists who merged into one multi-talented and animated Hip-Hop group. Each member brings unique skills and experiences to this rap union. King Kosh, a native of Belize, Central America with ties to New York and Philadelphia is proud to embrace Oakland as his second home. He has been in several rap groups and has released numerous solo projects. King Kosh brings a mixture of Caribbean styles blended with an authentic hip-hop appeal. Base’Rox is an Oakland native who has an unorthodox flow which stems from his background in visual arts. His rhyme pattern is sure to capture listeners by surprise yet his word play comes across smooth and lies on top of tracks perfectly. Ruckcole is an Oaklander as well and has several years of experience in the Bay Area hip-hop arena. His powerful voice and metaphoric rap style assists him in flawlessly executing all beats. Together, the impression that this trio leaves upon those within ear shot range is reminiscent of the golden hip-hop days. Although Ruckcole, King Kosh & Base’Rox have been close friends for more than ten years, the 5 Star Geez movement is fairly new. It all began summer of 2008 when Base'Rox and Ruckole flew out to Philly to visit King Kosh. Kosh was living in Philly for about four years and was desperately trying to get his long time Oakland friends to visit him there. It wasn't until Mr.Kosh decided to throw a "Going back to Cali" Bash, that his homies finally decided to visit. The night that Base'Rox and Ruckole touch down at the Philadelphia airport the energy between the soon to be 5StarGeez was high. With a bottle of Skyy Vodka and a box of swishers, pre-rolled by Ruckcole, straight to the lab they went. The first track they recorded was "Fever for a Bunny", followed up by the infamous, "Slap Nasty". The visit by Ruck and Base was short but not long after Kosh returned to Oakland. Soon the three found themselves back into the studio recording song after song. Within a month time Kosh, Ruck and Base had enough songs for two albums. They decided to form a group but couldn’t think of a name that fits their combined styles until Kosh heard Ruckcole spit these lines on a record titled, “Six 16” ,“You extra sensitive you remind me of a diva/ I’ma 5 star general with stripes like a zebra.” They all agreed on the group name, 5StarGeez!
