Cassandra Clare is the author of the #1 New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and Publishers Weekly bestselling Shadowhunter Chronicles and the New York Times bestselling Chronicles of Castellane. The Shadowhunter Chronicles have been adapted as both a major motion picture and a television series. Her books have more than fifty million copies in print worldwide and have been translated into more than thirty-five languages. Cassandra lives in western Massachusetts with her husband and four fearsome cats.

Cassandra’s longtime interest in magic and fantasy dates from when she was a child, when she traveled extensively with her parents and would bring books along for companionship. After a stint in journalism and working in several bookstores, Cassandra began her first novel, City of Bones, inspired by her love for works of classic urban fantasy. The book and its sequels focus on the Shadowhunters, a half-human, half-angelic band of warriors destined to protect the earth from demon incursions. The Shadowhunter books soon grew to encompass a massive collection of novels, short stories, and multimedia. They are often regarded as a cornerstone of young adult fantasy.

More recently, Cassandra has turned her passion for fantasy to the Chronicles of Castellane, a series for adults that takes place in the world of Dannemore, where magic disappeared long ago in a mysterious cataclysm known as the Sundering. The books follow the adventures of Kel Saren, a former street urchin snatched from an orphanage to serve as bodyguard (and body double) to the crown prince Conor Aurelian, and Lin Caster, an ambitious physician who becomes determined to reclaim the magical secrets of old. Kel and Lin both find themselves caught up in the intrigues and swirling loyalties of the palace and the city’s seedy underworld. The magic in the books is inspired partly by Jewish folklore and mythology, stories Cassie grew up hearing from her grandparents and great-grandparents. She loves talking to people about writing, creating fantasy worlds, and the importance of literacy.
