This remarkable work of prehistoric sculpture is called the "Venus of Brassempouy". She is made of mammoth ivory and was likely once a full body sculpture, though only her head remains today. It was discovered in a cave in Brassempouy, France in 1892. Archeaologists have dated it to roughly 25,000 years ago. This makes this Venus figures one of the earliest representations of a recognizable female face.
