PETE SEEGER
1919-2014
Farewell great American folk artist!
What a long, wonderful life
full of important music and causes . . .
A worthy protege of Woody Guthrie.
Champion of the common man,
and worthy opponent of corrupt politics.
Environmentalist and war protestor.
2 Grammy award winner.
Rock-and-roll hall of fame inductee.
National Medal of Arts recipient.
Writer and performer of
unforgettable, universal songs of our times:
If I Had A Hammer
Turn, Turn, Turn
Where Have All The Flowers Gone
Farewell dear friend.

GOURMET RAMEN NOODLES
Ramen noodles have a bad name.
(I think of them as cheap, dehydrated
instant Asian lunch.)
Hiro Asian Kitchen (St. Louis)
proved me wrong.
Their beautiful restaurant serves
amazing Ramen and traditional dishes
from scratch . . .
including Hiro Ramen . . .
fresh wheat noodles
with 5-spice pork & fragrant vegetables.
Amazing!

VENI, VIDI, VICI
"I came, I saw, I conquered."
During the holidays, I was given
a Pancake House gift card,
which a friend had carried around
in his wallet for FIVE YEARS.
Not knowing if they'd still honor
a gift card that old,
I stopped in for "a stack"
of blueberry pancakes!
It worked.
(These are the pancakes.)
The final photo is
proof of the conquest!
Oh my!

NORWAY'S FASHION SPLASH
AT THE OLYMPICS
The Norwegian curling team
is already making headlines,
and they're not even in Sochi yet!
Who says Olympic team uniforms
have to be dull, in Russia?
(Not Norway!)
Their curling team
(ranked 4th worldwide)
hired California designer LOUDMOUTH
to come up with some attention-getting
uniforms for the winter Olympics.
On a recent visit to Las Vegas,
their geometric patterned suits
attracted non-stop attention and crowds.
"Wait till you see our pants in Sochi,"
they said.
No doubt, the world will learn about CURLING
when they watch these Norwegian sensations.

COUNTRY GRAVESTONES:
SHADOWS OF OUR PAST
Hillside cemetery plots . . .
solitary gravestones in the woods . . .
forgotten names fading in the stone . . .
These are the brave pioneers
that founded our country,
and gave birth to generations
that have moved to cities
giving birth to hundreds of families.
We must always remember,
and pay homage to our roots.
Each of us creates his own shadow.
A destiny to be fulfilled.
We are the future ancestors.

BROTHER EDWARD
TAKES HIS SOLEMN VOWS
Following 3 years as a novitiate monk
at the St. Louis Abbey monastic community,
Brother Edward Mazuski, O.S.B.
professed his solemn vows at the Abbey Church,
before the Abbot and abbey monks.
The candidate stands before the Abbot,
professes his vows and lies prostrate
before the altar and is covered
by a funeral pall.
Antiphons and blessings
are sung by the Schola Cantorum
until finally, Brother Edward is led
to his place in the monastic choir.
He is now a member of the St. Louis Abbey
Benedictine monastic community, where he will
dedicate his life to education and service.
(It's time to enjoy the first piece of celebration cake.)

ROGUE 36
One could say
Rogue Underground Dining
has gone "to the dogs" . . .
but not really.
We just held our 36th gourmet dining event
in a VETERINARY CLINIC.
(This proves it's not the venue
that makes an amazing Rogue event.)
It's the gathering, the menu, the energy,
the chefs and staff, the creativity, the passion.
Where will the next Rogue dinner be held?
(The possibilities are endless.)
