Today we are releasing updates to Black Ink for macOS, iOS, and visionOS. Black Ink for Mac 2.4.6 is now available on the Black Ink site and on the Mac App Store. Black Ink 2.3.9 for iOS and visionOS is now available on the App Store.
These updates include a number of bug fixes and enhancements:
All Platforms
- Changing orientation between Across and Down in a completed word now implies “retyping” mode
- Fixed a bug that prevented very old puzzles from AV Club from downloading as expected
- Further refinements to time zone handling to ensure proper resolution of targeted puzzle URL
- Fixed a bug that mislabeled some puzzles with the wrong date
- Improved the usability of direct clue selection by numeric typing
Mac Only
- Improve handling of direct date downloads when the targeted source has an unexpectedly missing puzzle
- Fixed a crash when opening the Settings panel on macOS 12 or earlier
- Fixed a bug that caused the Settings panel to become very wide after selecting the Web Puzzles pane
- Fixed a bug that could prevent the selected word’s clue from scrolling into view
iOS and visionOS Only
- Fixed a bug that caused two puzzles to download every time the download button was tapped
- Added a “Contact Support” menu item to the Settings panel to provide a way to share data with Red Sweater

Black Ink 2.4.5 is now available on the Black Ink site and on the Mac App Store.
This update complements the recent update to the iOS version, adding many of the same improvements to the Mac version, as well as some Mac-specific changes:
- Improved typing mechanics when clicking into an already-completed answer to retype a new answer
- Improve handling of puzzle dates when traveling between different time zones
- Pressing space to erase now advances to next word if pressed a second time at end of word
- Keystrokes that advance selection are now ignored for a short time after selecting as clue by typing its number
- Fix a bug that caused the next unsolved square to be selected even if the setting was turned off
- Fix a bug that prevented puzzles from downloading after canceling a login panel
- Fix a bug that prevented solved puzzles from being “opened as unsolved”
- Fix a crash that could occur when using QuickLook Preview on a puzzle

Black Ink for iOS 2.3.8 is now available on the App Store
This update includes the following improvements:
- Fixed a crash that could occur while updating puzzle lists
- Pressing space to erase now advances to next word if pressed a second time at end of word
- Improved appearance of About and Acknowledgements presentation from Settings
- Improved handling of puzzle dates when traveling between different time zones
- Authentication panels for paid sources now use a standard password entry field
- Improved typing mechanics when clicking into an already-completed answer to retype a new answer
- Fixed a bug that caused the next unsolved square to be selected even if the setting was turned off
- Fixed a bug that caused the puzzle source list to jump awkwardly up after loading a new puzzle
- Improved animations on Apple Vision Pro when loading a new puzzle

MarsEdit 5.3.12 is now available on the MarsEdit site and on the Mac App Store.
This update fixes an issue that prevented the font panel from working reliably when changing the style of text in the rich text editor. It also includes a few other fixes:
- Fixed a bug that caused font panel changes not to be registered as expected in the Rich Text editor
- Fixed a bug that caused a blank “overlay” window to appear below title field
- Fixed a crash that could occur when processing an unexpected response from the blog server
- Removed an unnecessary animated hiding of the status bar when opening a new document
