Meh
This game would be fine if Fallout 3 and Fallout 3: New Vegas haven't existed. This one, considering the time has passed since F3 is too similar and too safe and it evolved in unnecessary places where it tried (dialogue, building, character progression). I felt burned out halfway through the main storyline and I am done with this series until it evolves again.

If you haven't played this game in the past it would be a bit harder to recommend this game to you. Don't get me wrong, it's very funny in its character design, writing, it has very imaginative levels and level design sprinkled with a good story, but at the same time, it has by today's standards bad controls, finicky camera, and bad design choices. One which immediately comes to mind is when progressing through the story you come to a point where an optional item from the store is mandatory to pass through the story. So I had to exit the level and farm arrowheads through the camp so I could buy it, then get back to the level and resume the plot. There are plenty of obtuse design choices like that and there were plenty of moments there I died because of bad controls or camera angles, but this game has a heart and I can't deny that. Try it, but know what you get yourself into!

Meh
After playing it for around 10-15h I just can't recommend it. It's a fun game with gorgeous pixel art and chiptune soundtrack, but as a roguelike, it lacks so many things it baffles my mind. It seems there is a pattern with tribute games where they make a very good base with deep and fluid gameplay, but very grindy progression and lack of environmental and enemy variety. All the stages in the game look almost exactly the same with little variation between them, enemies are recycled over and over again, there are only 4 main bosses in the game with the same ones being reused countless times. But even if you don't mind this the game is a roguelike and it fails as one in almost any way. My biggest gripes are: Too few upgrades in the run, it makes each run almost exactly the same; Chest rooms with traps are pointless, 90% you will receive coins which are mostly meaningless but you can lose health in return so most of the players just skip them; There is no reward after beating each boss, you receive a big sum of coins after beating them, but you can't even use the coins afterward as the game just drops you to the main menu and there is no way to use them; Runs are just too long, the last boss requires you to beat something like 15 rooms before you can fight him and you have to beat all the previous bosses at the end, it's just not fun; Too many cheap deaths, there are so many traps which you just can't see at all as they are deliberately hidden, in the game where skill is king I find it backward to have such strange design choice; Difficulty spikes too fast after the second boss; There are so many other things wrong with this game as a roguelike so I just dropped it without beating. The game is fun, the hooking mechanics are slick and skill-based gameplay is right up my alley but the faults just poisons the overall base on the game.

I don't usually like horror or very dark games, but I decided to try this one after hearing so many praises to it. And mostly after so much hype, when you try it for yourself the game usually disappoints, but boy oh boy this game delivered. Soma is not actually a horror game, more like a dark and gritty sci-fi with a disturbing atmosphere and plot but that darkness and an uneasy feeling is really strong and well made. I don't want to spoil anything, but this was one of the very few games who manages to pull that "what just happened down there, I have to know" feeling perfect. After the ending, I just sat and stared to scrolling end credits, but inside my mind was blowing up like fireworks on July 4th. Play this game, the writing is superb, voice acting is amazing, atmosphere is chilling and this game is awesome.

This game is the epidemy of atmospheric to me. The soundtrack, art design, color pallet, suburban location creates such a unique experience which I actually felt. From the moment Max put headphones in her ears and started to walk in the school hallway and Syd Matters - To All Of You starts to play, I knew I was in for a treat. Yes, the voice acting was strange at a times for some characters, lip synch was terrible, but it can't take from what the game has - character and spirit.

This game is just like a B movie, it's not for everyone, it's cheaper budget, it's silly and over the top, but fun to enjoy the ride. And I was missing these type of main characters like Wang without knowing it!
