Just saw this film this weekend(I don’t get out to theaters anymore) and, I must say, I enjoyed it. it seems to have garnered some bad reviews along the way, but I thought they were unwarranted. I’m no professional critic, I just know what I like.
Quantum of Solace was not perfect, mind you, but it made for a diverting couple of hours and that’s all I’m looking for in my entertainments these days. Daniel Craig is starting to rise on my list of favorite actors in the role of James Bond. I had read all the Ian Fleming novels and the short story collection before I ever saw the first film.
Sean Connery’s is the best interpretation of the character for me(the first you see is the one that imprints on one’s conscious I guess), but Timothy Dalton runs a close second. He’s actually the closest to the physical model I’d developed in my mind from reading the books. I never really warmed to Roger Moore’s Bond. To gadget laden for my tastes, they seemed to get more outlandish in each succeeding film. Pierce Brosnan was always-too wimpy- for me. And George Lazenby’s one appearance in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service(we won’t speak of his brief stint in the Man From U.N.C.L.E. movie) wasn’t enough to make much of an impression.
Craig’s Bond is younger than previous models, therefor the action is ramped up with less reliance on gadgetry. Seeming him with twenty-something women looks a bit more realistic than Moore’s and Brosnan’s aging Bonds.
All in all, the series looks to be in good hands for the forseeable future.
