December Wrap Up

Early in the month,
I stitched my Colorwash 360
class project quilt top together.

I also quilted and bound Marathon,
and even added a sleeve and label.

On a whim I pulled fabrics from my resource boxes
inspired by the colors chosen by Bonnie Hunter
for her 2018 mystery quilt named Good Fortune.
(let's all say it together -- SQUIRREL)

In the weeks since that fabric pull,
I've changed my mind about how I plan to use them
which should come as no surprise
to those of you who know me.

I am not going to die cut half rectangles.

Instead, this will be the fabric pull for
my first quilt of Sujata Shah's
(nicknamed the U&UQA)

I'm looking forward to our January 7th start.

Feliz Navidad moved from fabric pull
to pieced blocks ready to be webbed together.

As I pieced those sixteen patches,
I also stitched quite a few pairs of squares
for one of several leader-ender projects
prepped for next year - all designed to
use my over-abundant stash of 2.5" strips
that have accumulated over the years.

And in the space of two weeks,
I conceived, designed, pieced, quilted, bound,
and gifted Busy Town to Little Man.

You can read that story here.

Now that I have a new plan for the BH fabric pull,
I've shifted the half-rectangles idea
 to THIS fabric pull featuring
fabrics from Needle & Thread and my stash.

AND I finally finished up the current
AHIQ Maps and Mapping Challenge.

You can read my last few posts using the links below:

I'm curious to see what the
next AHIQ challenge will be.

I've also been thinking about
what I want to work on in 2019.

I'll be back to share those ideas on January 1st.

Busy Town - The Quilt

This newly-gifted quilt was my

It all started with a panel purchased
almost fifteen years ago by a friend
who intended to use it to make a baby gift.

That baby gift didn't happen
(she made something else)
so the VIP Cranston panel went into storage.

My friend pulled it out again when HER son
turned thirty since Richard Scarry's book
Cars and Trucks and Things That Go
(with Goldbug)
was his very favorite book.

But even then, the panel remained intact
and went back into storage again
until last year's Panelmania challenge
when my friend offered it to our group
for a mere $5.00.

I claimed it since Richard Scarry books
were plentiful as our boys grew up
and several of them are in use once again.

But I ended up making Tea Party
for my panel challenge quilt
and this panel went into my stash.

And then I decided to make a last-minute quilt
for Little Man who now loves Goldbug and Busy Town
and the Richard Scarry books at his house and ours.

I framed each of the panel blocks
(which were originally intended to make up
into a baby's cloth book)
using my solids stash.

The blocks were squared and sewn together
with the title page and end page in opposite corners.

Wavy lines of quilting were stitched
using Glide's Hawaiian Blue.

The backing and binding are Robert Kaufman's Splatter.
(pieced using one yard of a wide back /ordered online)

Approx. 36" w x 45" long

The quilt was gifted yesterday and
he LOVED it!

So at long last my friend's purchase
has found its purpose and a forever home
in the heart and hands of Little Man.

Super Secret Sewing Project

This is all I can share right now
for the last-minute secret sewing project
that is underway in my studio.

You can probably guess who it is for . . .

So glad the photographer
was quick to snap this photo.

Little Man's smile dissolved seconds later.

Like most 2 year olds,
he isn't quite sure about
that red suited person.
