Abstract
The present invention relates to a system (1) which enables to detect the persons who carry out transaction with a stolen ID (identity) or card and to determine whether a transaction, which is made by comparing the location information of the person who carries out a suspicious transaction with the mobile number of the holder of the stolen card, will be carried out by a fraudster or not.
Description
SYSTEM FOR DETECTING FRAUDULENT ACTIVITIES BASED ON LOCATION
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a system which enables to detect the persons who carry out transaction with a stolen ID (identity) or card and to determine whether a transaction, which is made by comparing the location information of the person who carries out a suspicious transaction with the mobile number of the holder of the stolen card, will be carried out by a fraudster or not.
Background of the Invention
Today, users can carry out financial transactions by their own ID cards or credit, shopping cards. When their ID card is stolen, the real holder of the card may end up being involved in criminal situations. In addition, when people who lose their credit card or have it stolen do not realize that their card has been stolen early, they may find out that the entire balance has been withdrawn from their card in a very short time. Although financial companies block the said stolen cards by quickly taking action against the theft of credit cards and shopping cards, some fraudsters can act more quickly than bank companies. In the state of the art, analysis is made against previous fraud information based on the locations of the user equipment. In another state of the technique, it is possible to detect fraudulent activities by determining unauthorized use of wireless communication services by means of a cloned mobile device.
However, in the current technique, there is no solution which enables to receive the coordinate information of the location where the transaction is carried out from the
bank, without asking the user for location sharing permission in any monetary transaction; to enable the related bank to take action according to the distance information transmitted to it by sharing only the information about whether the location of the user’s mobile phone is within a certain distance to the place where the said monetary transaction is carried out, with the bank by using an algorithm.
The United States patent document no. US2012246076, an application included in the state of the art, discloses a system for preventing a fraudulent use of a credit card. In the invention mentioned in the United States patent document no. US2012246076, a server receives a card ID of a credit card, a credit amount, and a terminal ID for identifying a shop terminal from a shop terminal, to start credit processing. The server acquires a corresponding user ID from the card ID, to find out whether this user has approved that location information can be acquired from his/her mobile terminal. In the case where the user has approved that location information is acquired in advance, the server acquires a mobile phone number from the user ID, to know a location of the mobile terminal with use of this mobile phone number. Area information of a base station in which the mobile phone resides is provided in the case where the mobile terminal is not equipped with a GPS function. The server acquires a shop ID from the terminal ID (fixed-line phone number) of the shop terminal, to be able to acquire a shop location from the shop ID. The server compares the location of the mobile terminal and the location of the shop, to judge whether or not conformance is made with a predetermined condition. In the case where it is judged that conformance is made with the condition, the server makes a normal credit judgment, thereby sends a reply to the credit inquiry.
Summary of the Invention
An objective of the present invention is to realize a system which enables to receive the coordinate information of the location where the transaction is carried out from the bank, without asking the user for location sharing permission in any monetary
transaction; to enable the related bank to take action according to the distance information transmitted to it by sharing only the information about whether the location of the user’s mobile phone is within a certain distance to the place where the said monetary transaction is carried out, with the bank by using an algorithm; and detects fraudulent activities based on location.

service has determined that the identity information and password information entered are correct. The server (5) is configured to enable a user to carry out a monetary transaction by his/her bank card (2) securely by transmitting a message comprising the information that the user who carries out a monetary transaction by his/her bank card (2) is the rightful holder of the bank card (2) to the bank server (3), in the event that the distance between the coordinates obtained as a result of the comparison is less than or equal to the threshold distance determined by the bank infrastructure.
Industrial Application of the Invention
In the inventive system (1), a user wants to carry out a monetary transaction by visiting an ATM or bank branch by his/her bank card (2). The bank server (3) included in the invention asks the bank card (2) user to enter his/her identity information by establishing communication with the bank infrastructure in association with the bank card (2). Upon the identity information entered by the user prove to be right, it is ensured that the coordinate information of the phone number information of the registered holder of the bank card (2) is detected over the server (5). The location coordinate data of the instant monetary transactions carried out by the bank card (2) user are stored in the database (4). The server (5) compares the current coordinate data of the user with the coordinate data of the location of the number information of the bank card (2) holder who is registered in the database (4). The server (5) sends a warning message to the bank server (3) by marking the user who carries out a transaction by his/her debit card (2) as a fraudster, in the event that the distance between two coordinates is greater than a predetermined threshold value as a result of the coordinate comparison made. Thereby, the rightful holder of the bank card (2) is protected by cancelling the monetary transactions the debit card (2), who is bank identified as fraudulent, is about to carry out.
With the inventive system (1), it is possible to receive the coordinate information of the location where the transaction is carried out from the bank, without asking the user for location sharing permission in any monetary transaction; to enable the related bank to take action according to the distance information transmitted to it by sharing only the information about whether the location of the user’s mobile phone is within a certain distance to the place where the said monetary transaction is carried out, with the bank by using an algorithm.
Since the location information of users is not shared with any third party in the inventive system (1), the user data included in this system (1) is in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Law (KVKK) in terms of security.
Within these basic concepts; it is possible to develop a wide variety of embodiments of the inventive “System (1) for Detecting Fraudulent Activities Based on Location”; the invention cannot be limited to examples disclosed herein and it is essentially according to claims.
