Definitions
- the invention relates to the field of glazing, in particular for vehicles, and in particular for motor vehicles.
- the invention relates more precisely to glazing comprising a glazed element having an exterior face, an interior face and an edge located between these two faces, a longitudinal edge, a lateral edge and a corner located between said longitudinal edge and said lateral edge.
- the invention relates more precisely to glazing comprising a glazed element having an exterior face, an interior face and an edge located between these two faces, a low longitudinal edge, a high longitudinal edge, two side edges, two low corners each located between said bottom longitudinal edge and one of the two side edges and two high corners each located between said top longitudinal edge and one of the two side edges.
- top and bottom here refer to the essentially vertical positioning of the glazing in the environment of the vehicle.
- the invention also relates to a particular profiled seal for such glazing and a method for manufacturing such glazing.
- a glazing comprising a longitudinal profiled joint along a low longitudinal edge and having a longitudinal wing and a longitudinal groove for clipping an exterior cover piece to said low longitudinal profile joint, the wing being fixed to the interior face of the glazed element along the longitudinal edge of the glazed element and the groove extending from of the wing further than the edge of the glazed element, towards the interior space or the exterior space.
- the glazing comprises several different profile joints.
- a side profile joint does not have a groove because there is no outer cover piece to clip along a side edge.
- one profile joint (usually the side profile joint) ends away from the other so that their different shapes and/or methods of attachment to the glazed element do not interfere with each other.
- each profile joint due to the functions of each profile joint, it may be desired that in this corner environment the two different profile joints are as close as possible, or even in contact with each other.
- the present invention is based on the discovery that, surprisingly, it is possible to achieve this by providing that, for the bossed side profile joint, the base extends into the environment of the corner to be close or even in contact with the wing of the longitudinal profiled joint or even that the base extends even further into the environment of the corner to be close or even in contact with the groove of the longitudinal profiled joint.
- This configuration is particularly advantageous when the two profiled joints are not fixed to the glazing using the same process; in particular this configuration is very advantageous when the longitudinal profiled joint is prefabricated then fixed to the glazed element with an adhesion strip and the lateral profiled joint is fixed to the glazed element by in-situ extrusion on the glazed element .
- This configuration is particularly advantageous when the two profiled joints are fixed to the glazing by providing a strip of bonding primer and the two strips of bonding primer have a different composition; two different primer compositions implying that, by nature, these compositions are not compatible with each other and that if both are present, neither can fulfill its role as primer.
- This configuration is also particularly advantageous for managing the flow of water along the side profile: the water sliding along the side profile is guided towards the lowest point and does not stagnate: the water does not remain and this thus avoids the risk of water degrading one (or both) bonding primer(s); In addition, there is no risk of dirt accumulating.
- the invention thus relates, in its broadest sense, to glazing according to claim 1.
- This glazing comprises a glazed element having an exterior face, an interior face and an edge located between these two faces, a longitudinal edge, a lateral edge and a corner located between said longitudinal edge and said lateral edge, said glazing comprising several different profiled joints : - a longitudinal profiled joint having a longitudinal wing and a longitudinal groove for clipping an exterior cover piece to said longitudinal profiled joint, said wing being fixed to said interior face along said longitudinal edge and said groove extending from said wing further than said song, - a lateral profiled joint having a base and a bead, said base being fixed to said interior face along said lateral edge and said bead extending from said base further than said edge, the glazing being remarkable in that a lateral end of said lateral profiled joint extends in the environment of said corner with said base located opposite said wing of the longitudinal profiled joint, or even opposite said groove of said longitudinal profile joint.
- Said longitudinal profile joint preferably being a low longitudinal profile joint, preferably a low lateral end of said lateral profile joint extends in the environment of said low corner with said base located opposite said wing of the longitudinal profile joint , or even lower opposite said groove of said longitudinal profiled joint.
- said longitudinal profiled joint is present by being fixed all along said longitudinal wing to said glazed element; said base of the side profile joint is also fixed to said glazed element in the environment of said corner.
- said lateral edge of the glazed element is oriented substantially perpendicular to said longitudinal edge of the glazed element.
- said longitudinal profiled joint has two ends and said glazing thus has two corner environments; these two corner environments are preferably according to the present invention, without necessarily being identical. These two corners are preferably low corners.
- said groove extends from said wing further than said edge in the centrifugal direction; preferably said groove extends from said wing further than said edge towards the bottom.
- said bead extends from said base further than said edge in the centrifugal direction.
- said longitudinal profiled joint consists of said longitudinal wing and said longitudinal groove for clipping an exterior covering piece.
- said lateral profiled joint consists of said base and said bead.
- said groove is in contact with said bead and/or said wing is in contact with said base.
- said end of the side profile joint is a sharp bevel or an obtuse bevel; in this case it is easier to appear in contact than when the end of the side profile joint is straight.
- a side strip of bonding primer is located between said base and said interior face, said side strip of bonding primer extending in the environment of said corner.
- a longitudinal strip of bonding primer is located between said wing and said interior face, said longitudinal strip of bonding primer not extending into the environment of said corner.
- the two primer strips do not overlap.
- said longitudinal strip of bonding primer has a different composition from said side strip of bonding primer.
- said groove is a sharp bevel or obtuse bevel at at least one, and preferably two, end(s) of said longitudinal profiled joint, with preferably one, and preferably two, slot(s) between said wing and said base.
- the invention also relates to a longitudinal profiled joint for the glazing according to the invention, remarkable in that said groove is a sharp bevel or an obtuse bevel at at least one end, and preferably at both ends.
- This configuration then makes it possible to reduce the empty space (without profiled joint), between the longitudinal profiled joint and the lateral profiled joint in the corner environment.
- the two different profiled joints can then be close, or even as close as possible, or even in contact with each other.
- said wing preferably has a straight edge at at least one end, and preferably at both ends.
- the invention further relates to a method of manufacturing glazing according to the invention having an exterior face, an interior face and an edge located between these two faces, a longitudinal edge, a lateral edge and a corner located between said longitudinal edge and said lateral edge, said glazing comprising several different profiled joints: - a longitudinal profiled joint having a longitudinal wing and a longitudinal groove for clipping a covering piece to said longitudinal profiled joint, said wing being fixed to said interior face along said longitudinal edge and said groove extending from said base further than the said song, - a lateral profiled joint having a base and a lateral bead, said base being fixed to said interior face along said lateral edge and said bead extending from said base further than said edge.
- Said process is remarkable in that: - said longitudinal profiled joint is fixed to said interior face, then - said lateral profiled joint is fixed to said interior face, - and said end of the lateral profiled joint extends in the environment of said corner with said base which is located opposite said wing of the longitudinal profiled joint, or even opposite said groove of the profiled joint longitudinal.
- the two different profiled joints can then be as close as possible, or even in contact with each other.
- a longitudinal strip of bonding primer is applied against said interior face, said longitudinal strip of bonding primer not extending into the environment of said corner .
- a side strip of bonding primer is applied against said interior face, said side strip of bonding primer extending in the environment of said corner.
- a step of adjusting said end is carried out before said longitudinal profiled joint is fixed to said interior face.
- the method according to the invention has the advantage of being easier to implement than the processes for manufacturing glazing with several profiled joints of the prior art.
- - illustrates a front view of the exterior space of prior art glazing
- - represents a schematic view of the lower left corner of the glazing of the , seen from interior space

- - represents a schematic view in partial section, along a plane B-B', of the glazing of the
- - represents a schematic view of a lower left corner, seen from the interior space, of glazing according to one embodiment of the invention.
- the present invention is described by way of example in the context of an application as fixed vehicle glazing 1.
- This glazing closes a window by creating a separation between an exterior space E, which is exterior to the vehicle, and an interior space I, which is interior to the vehicle.
- the notions of “exterior” and “interior” are therefore considered in relation, respectively, to exterior space and interior space.
- the present invention is described, by way of non-limiting example, by being applied to windshield glazing.
- the glazing is seen from the outside, oriented vertically like on a vehicle.
- the glazing is represented schematically, in a view equivalent to a view of the interior space, the glazing not yet being installed in a bodywork opening (it is therefore not visible).
- the glazing 1 comprises a glazed element 2.
- This glazed element can be monolithic, that is to say made up of a single sheet of material, or be composite, that is to say made up of several sheets of material between which is inserted at least one intermediate layer of adherent material, in the case of laminated glazing.
- the sheet(s) of material may (or may) be mineral(s), notably made of glass, having for example undergone annealing or quenching, or organic(s), notably made of plastic material such as polyvinylbutyral .
- the intermediate layer preferably contains at least one thermoplastic plastic material, preferably polyvinyl butyral (PVB), ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), and/or polyethylene terephthalate (PET).
- thermoplastic intermediate layer may also contain, for example, polyurethane (PU), polypropylene (PP), polyacrylate, polyethylene (PE), polycarbonate (PC), polymethyl methacrylate, polyvinyl chloride, polyacetate resin, casting resins, acrylates, fluorinated ethylene propylene, polyvinyl fluoride and/or ethylene tetrafluoroethylene, or copolymers or mixtures thereof.
- the thermoplastic intermediate layer may be formed of one or more superimposed thermoplastic films, the thickness of a thermoplastic film preferably not exceeding 1.0 mm, in particular 0.25 mm or 0.5 mm to 1 .0 mm or 0.9 mm, typically around 0.4 mm or 0.7 mm.
- the glazing can form a windshield, a vehicle side window.
- the vehicle may be a land road vehicle, such as a car, a truck, a bus, a tramway, a rail vehicle.
- This may be fixed glazing (non-movable in the vehicle's frame of reference).
- the glazing is preferably positioned vertically or essentially vertically in the vehicle's frame of reference.
- centripetal and that of “centrifugal” is to be considered in relation to the central longitudinal axis of advancement of the vehicle equipped with the glazing according to the invention as a windshield, c 'that is to say the axis generally called “the X-X axis" of the vehicle, which is perpendicular to the plane of the sheet of the ; the centrifugal direction is perpendicular to this axis and in the direction of this axis while the centripetal direction is perpendicular to this axis and the opposite, moving away from this axis.
- glazing 1 comprises a glazed element 2 which is curved (that is to say not flat) and laminated. However, for simplicity, it is considered in the figures that the glazed element 2 is flat.
- the glazed element 2 has an exterior face 20 which is oriented towards the exterior E, an interior face 22 which is oriented towards the interior I and an edge 21 located between these two faces.
- the glazed element 2 has a bottom longitudinal edge 23, a left side edge 24, a top longitudinal edge 25 and a right side edge 26.
- the glazed element 2 has two lower corners 27, 27', located: - for the corner 27 between the longitudinal edge 23, bottom, and the lateral edge 24, and visible in , of interior space I, - and for the corner 27' between the longitudinal edge 23, bottom, and the lateral edge 26.
- Glazing 1 includes several different profiled joints 6, 8, detailed below.
- the glazed element 2 is a laminated glazed element which comprises, as visible in the vertical sectional view A-A' of the and horizontal B-B' of the , an outer glass sheet 3, an inner glass sheet 5 and an interlayer sheet of plastic material 4 located between said two glass sheets.
- At least one other sheet is interposed between the outer glass sheet 3 and the plastic interlayer sheet 4 or between the plastic interlayer sheet 4 and the inner glass sheet 5.
- the outer glass sheet 3 has an outer face 30 which is oriented towards the outside E, an interlayer face 32 which is oriented towards the interlayer sheet of plastic material 4, and an edge 31 located between these two faces.
- the inner glass sheet 5 has an interlayer face 50 which is oriented towards the interlayer sheet of plastic material 4, an inner face 52 which is oriented towards the inside I and an edge 51 located between these two faces.
- the plastic interlayer sheet 4 has an outer interlayer face 40 which is oriented towards the interlayer face 32 and which is here in contact with this interlayer face 32, an inner interlayer face 42 which is oriented towards the interlayer face 50 and which is here in contact with this intermediate face 50, as well as an edge 41 which is located between these two intermediate faces 32, 42.
- the glazed element 2 thus has an exterior face 20 produced by the exterior face 30 of the exterior glass sheet 3, an interior face 22 produced by the interior face 52 of the interior glass sheet 5 and an edge 21 located between these two faces, corresponding to edge 31 of the outer glass sheet 3, to edge 41 of the plastic sheet 4 and to edge 51 of the inner glass sheet 5, these three edges being here in continuity one of the other.
- the glazing 1 comprises, in addition to the glazed element 2, along at least part of the bottom longitudinal edge, and preferably along the entire bottom longitudinal edge, a longitudinal profiled joint 6 visible in detail in , having a longitudinal wing 60 and a longitudinal groove 61 for clipping a cover piece 7 exterior to said longitudinal profiled joint 3 (here on the longitudinal profiled joint 3 in an exterior-interior direction).
- the glazing 1 comprises, in addition to the glazed element 2 and the longitudinal profiled joint 6, along at least part of a side edge, and preferably along the entirety of this side edge, a lateral profiled seal 8 , visible in detail in , having a lateral base 80 and a lateral bead 81 for sealing between a side bodywork upright (not shown) and the side edge (here the side edge 24) of the glazed element.
- the lateral bead 81 can also have an acoustic insulation function.
- the longitudinal profile joint 6 and the lateral profile joint 8 are present without touching each other; a distance of at least 1 centimeter, and often several centimeters, is provided between an end 62, here left, of the longitudinal profile joint 6 and an end 82, here lower, of the lateral profile joint 8.
- the lateral profile joint 8 is detailed further away.
- the wing 60 is attached to the inner face 22 along the longitudinal edge 23, bottom, and the groove 61 extends from the wing 60 further than the edge 21, in the centrifugal direction.
- the wing 60 is located more towards the interior space than the interior face 22 of the glazed element.
- Wing 60 came from material with groove 61; it is located near the bottom of the groove, outside it and extends in the centripetal direction.
- an adhesion strip 69 which is located on the wing 60, makes it possible to bond the inner wing 60, and therefore the longitudinal profiled joint 6, to the inner face 22 of the glazed element.
- Cover piece 7 comprises, seen in cross section, a harpoon 70 penetrating into groove 60 during clipping.
- Groove 60 has a mouth and a bottom: when clipping cover piece 7, harpoon 70 enters groove 60 through the mouth and towards the bottom; generally, in the clipped position, the 70 harpoon does not touch the bottom of the groove.
- the mouth of the groove, through which the harpoon 70 is introduced, is produced by two drains: a centrifugal drain 67, located to the left of the harpoon 70 on the and a centripetal drain 68, located to the right of the harpoon 70 in these same figures.
- the purpose of these two drains is to guide the harpoon 70 precisely towards the bottom of the groove 60 when clipping the harpoon 70.
- the covering part 7 is intended to be positioned further outside than the profiled joint 6 and to cover it at least in part when the glazing 1 is seen from the outside E.
- the groove 60 extends along the lower edge of the glazed element, more centrifugal than the edge 21 of the glazed element 2, that is to say under the edge 21 when the glazing is considered vertical, as in .
- the mouth of the groove is oriented towards the outer space E.
- the bottom of the groove 60 can be located further inside than the interior face 22 of the glazed element; this does not interfere with the positioning of the glazing in the bodywork opening because there is space under the interior face 22.
- the two groove mouth drains are each hammer-shaped with the heads almost opposite each other, the centrifugal drain 67 being located slightly further outboard than the centripetal drain 68.
- the harpoon is double: it is made up, seen in cross section, of two bosses oriented opposite each other and offset, the centrifugal boss, intended to come under the centrifugal drain 67 being located slightly further to the exterior as the centripetal boss intended to come under the centripetal drain 68.
- Clipping thus consists of the penetration of the harpoon 70 inside the groove 60 and more precisely the two bosses of the harpoon inside the groove 60 and under the two drains.
- the width of the mouth, at the shortest between the two drains, is less than the width of the two bosses at the widest.
- this clipping of the harpoon 70 of the cover part 7 in the groove 60 of the longitudinal profile joint 6 is carried out well after the fixing of the longitudinal profile joint 6 to the glazed element 2; in fact, the glazing 1 is delivered to the car manufacturer or the car repairer with the longitudinal profile seal 6 fixed to the glazed element and it is only after the glazing 1 is glued in the bodywork bay that the harpoon 70 is clipped in groove 60.
- the material constituting the groove 60 can be reinforced by the presence, inside, of a tenon 66, such as for example a metal insert, which makes it possible to increase the rigidity of the groove.
- This tenon can for example be an aluminum profile with a thickness of 0.4 mm. It increases the stiffness of the 60 groove.
- the exterior face 20 of the glazed element 2 is preferably free opposite the groove 61.
- the profiled joint 6 is prefabricated before its attachment to the glazed element: it is manufactured by extrusion through an extrusion die, then is curved along its length to conform with the general shape of the lower part of the glazed element along its length, then is fixed to the glazed element.
- This adhesion can be achieved using the adhesion strip 69 formed by a layer of glue or an adhesive tape and in particular a double-sided adhesive tape, which is located on an exterior face of the inner wing 60.
- a longitudinal strip of bonding primer 65 between the wing 60 and the interior face 22.
- This longitudinal strip of bonding primer 65 follows the dimension and shape of the strip d 'accession 69; the longitudinal strip of bonding primer 65 is at least as wide as the adhesion strip 69.
- the longitudinal strip of bonding primer 65 is applied against the inner face 22 before the longitudinal profiled joint 6 is fixed to the inner face 22, to allow good adhesion of the wing 60 to the inner face 22.
- the wing 60 has a width l 60 , between 5.0 and 20.0 mm, or even between 8.0 and 15.0 mm, in particular 12 mm. This width is sufficient to allow good support of the interior wing against the interior glass sheet.
- the covering part 7 is intended to be positioned further outside than the profiled joint 6 and to only partially cover it when the glazing 1 is seen from the outside E;
- the centripetal drain 68 constitutes a lip whose exterior face is both in continuity (“flush”, in English) of the exterior face 20 of the glazed element and in continuity (“flush”, in English) of the exterior face of the cover piece 7.
- the glazed element 2 is manufactured before the fixing of the longitudinal profile 6 joint to the glazed element 2 and before the fixing of the lateral profile 8 joint to the glazed element 2, that is to say that the lamination of the sheets of glass 3, 5 with the plastic sheet in order to form laminated glazing is carried out before fixing the profiled joint 6 to the glazed element 2.
- the side profile seal 8 is placed on only part of the periphery of the glazing 1: it is present at least at the bottom of the left and right side edges, resp. 24, 26 of the glazed element and preferably along all of these left and right side edges; it is also preferably along the entire top longitudinal edge 25.
- the material constituting the side profile seal 8 can be a polymer material such as a thermoplastic (PVC, TPE, etc.), a polyurethane or even a synthetic rubber of the EPDM type or any other suitable flexible plastic material.
- a polymer material such as a thermoplastic (PVC, TPE, etc.), a polyurethane or even a synthetic rubber of the EPDM type or any other suitable flexible plastic material.
- the lateral profile seal 8 is preferably manufactured by implementing a manufacturing process called “extrusion” because it includes a step of depositing the lateral profile seal 8 in situ, with already its profiled shape, directly against the interior face 22 It can be prefabricated before being attached to the glazed element: it is then manufactured by extrusion through an extrusion die, then is fixed to the glazed element.
- a side strip of bonding primer 88 between the base 80 and the interior face 22.
- This side strip of bonding primer 88 follows the dimension and base shape 80; the side strip of bonding primer 88 is at least as wide as the base 80.
- the side strip of bonding primer 88 is applied against the interior face 22, before the lateral profile joint 8 is fixed to the interior face 22, to allow good adhesion of the base 80 to the interior face 22.
- the lateral strip of bonding primer 88 here has a different composition from that of the longitudinal strip of bonding primer 65.
- the bead 81 here has a lip 87 which extends along the side profile joint 8. Before fixing the glazing in the bodywork opening, the lip 87 extends substantially from the edge 21 in a centrifugal direction after the base 80 When the glazing is fixed in the bodywork opening, lip 87 deforms (here upwards), to come into contact with the opening.
- End 89 (here the lower end) is thus in contact, or almost in contact (with a maximum space of 2 mm, or even 3 mm), with end 62 (here the left end) of the longitudinal profile joint 6.
- the longitudinal profile joint 6 is present directly above the lateral profile joint 8.
- the end 89 is a sharp bevel, with the tip of the bevel oriented towards the corner between the end 62 of the longitudinal joint 6 and the centrifugal edge of the longitudinal groove 61.
- Groove 61 is sharply beveled at end 62, preferably with a slot 63 between wing 60 and base 80.
- the bead 81 is intended to be compressed against a bodywork pillar, it may be preferable for the end 62 to stop approximately 2 mm before the end 89 of the side profile joint 8 so as not to be itself compressed during installation of the glazing in the body bay.
- a slot 63 may be present between the part of the wing 60 (here to the right of slot 63) which is fixed to the interior face 22 and the base 80 (here to the left of slot 63).
- This slot 63 can also facilitate the removal of the adhesion strip 69 in the part of the end 62 to prevent the wing from adhering to the inner face 22 in this part; it can also facilitate the application and removal (here to the left of the slot) of a tool aimed at pressing indirectly (here to the right of the slot), for example by a marouflage operation, the wing 60 against the face interior 22 when gluing the longitudinal profile joint 6 in its part other than the end 62.
- the two ends 62 of the longitudinal profile joint are identical; they are preferably both sharp beveled, facing upwards; preferably for these two ends, only the grooves have beveled edges at the ends: the wings have straight edges at the ends.
- the lateral profile seal 8 is preferably present along the entire periphery of the glazed element 2, except in the part of this periphery where the longitudinal profile seal 6 is present.
- the longitudinal profiled joint 6 is fixed first to the interior face 22, preferably after having applied the side strip of bonding primer 68, then - the lateral profiled seal 8 is attached secondly to the interior face 22, preferably after having applied the side strip of bonding primer 88 - with the end 89 of the lateral profile joint 8 which extends in the environment of the corner 27 such that the base 80 is located opposite the wing 60 of the longitudinal profile joint 6, or even that this base 80 extends even lower, opposite the groove 61 of the longitudinal profiled joint 6.
- end 89 constitutes a precise and reliable reference for subsequently fixing longitudinal profile 6; the fixing of the two profiles can thus be carried out very quickly, with very high precision. It is easy to repeat from one glazing to another.
