Abstract
Description
Gassackmodul sowie Fahrzeuglenkeinheit mit einem solchen Gassackmodul Gas bag module and vehicle steering unit with such a gas bag module
The invention relates to a gas bag module for mounting on a steering handle of a motor vehicle that can be rotated about an axis A, with a module housing for accommodating a folded gas bag, which has a module base, and a metal spring for latching the gas bag module on the steering handle, which is preassembled on the module base, and a transverse to the axis A has elastically deflectable latching section. In addition, the invention also includes a vehicle steering unit with such a gas bag module.
A front airbag module on the driver's side is nowadays usually arranged in the center of a steering handle designed as a steering wheel and, in particular, is latched to a hub of the steering wheel. Such a snap-in connection has a certain axial play, for example as a result of dimensional tolerances and the need to ensure secure locking and/or as a result of progressive material aging. In addition, the latching connection can also define a desired axial play in order to enable a relative movement and to trigger a vehicle horn by pressing down on the gas bag module.
In ferry operation, this axial play in the snap-in connection can lead to unwanted noise when the snap-in elements involved meet on rough roads or when the steering wheel vibrates. The noises are particularly audible/disturbing for the vehicle occupant when the latching elements involved are metal components, which is usually the case due to the safety requirements and the forces occurring when the gas bag module is triggered. As shown in Figures 8 and 9, it is already known from the prior art to provide a locking element 20' designed as a locking bolt with a (noise-dampening) plastic sleeve 100 in the area of its locking lug 40' in order to ensure direct contact between the locking bolt and the To avoid metal spring 28'. However, this plastic collar 100 must also be manufactured separately and then mounted on the latching element 20', which undesirably increases the manufacturing complexity and costs for the vehicle steering unit 12'.
The object of the invention is therefore to create an airbag module in which, after it has been mounted on the steering handle of a motor vehicle in ferry mode, unwanted noise development between the airbag module and the steering handle is reliably prevented or minimized with little effort.
According to the invention, this object is achieved by a gas bag module of the type mentioned at the outset, in which a spacer is provided on the module base, which is axially adjacent to the locking section on a side of the metal spring facing the folded gas bag and together with the locking section in a deflection direction running transversely to axis A x is elastically deflectable. The spacer provided on the module base serves to dampen noise when the gas bag module is in the latched state, as a result of which more complex noise dampening measures such as the plastic sleeve mentioned above can be dispensed with.
In a preferred embodiment of the gas bag module, the spacer is designed in one piece with the module base, so that no manufacturing or assembly steps for separate noise dampers are necessary.
The module base is particularly preferably a plastic component, in particular an injection molded part made of plastic. A plastic material is usually generally suitable for noise dampening, in particular if it prevents direct metal-to-metal contact between the metal spring and a locking element (usually also metal) of the steering handle. Due to the production as an injection molded part, a geometric adaptation of the module base, especially the molding of a spacer, is possible with largely negligible additional effort.
According to a further embodiment of the gas bag module, the spacer has an axial extension which is adjacent to the latching section of the metal spring in the direction of deflection. When assembling the airbag module, the latching section of the metal spring is secured, for example, by a latching element of the steering acted upon and deflected handle in the deflection direction. The spacer is coupled via the axial extension in such a way that the metal spring “entrains” the spacer in the direction of deflection. The latching section of the metal spring and the spacer consequently first perform a deflection movement together in the deflection direction and then an opposite latching movement, so that a particularly reliable and reproducible latching of the gas bag module is ensured.
The module base preferably has an axial base opening for receiving a latching element of the steering handle, with both the latching section of the metal spring and the spacer protruding into an opening cross section of the base opening. In this way, the gas bag module can be latched to the steering handle simply, reliably and with little installation space by means of an axial assembly movement.
The invention also includes a vehicle steering unit, with a gas bag module as described above and a steering handle that can be rotated about an axis A, on which a (particularly metal) latching element with a latching lug for latching with the metal spring of the gas bag module is provided, with the spacer of the module base in the latched state of the gas bag module, it extends axially between the latching lug and the latching section of the metal spring. Consequently, the spacer reliably prevents undesired contact between the metal spring and the (particularly also metal) latching lug and a resulting contact noise. In contrast, any contact noise of the spacer with the latching lug and/or the metal spring is negligible, particularly when the spacer is made of a plastic.
According to one embodiment of the vehicle steering unit, the airbag module can be moved to a limited extent relative to the steering handle in the axial direction, for example to actuate a vehicle horn, with a spring element being provided which urges the airbag module and the steering handle away from one another axially.
In this embodiment, the spring element can in particular be a helical compression spring which is arranged between the steering handle and the gas bag module and which encloses the latching element of the steering handle. The latching element is preferably a separate latching bolt which is fastened to the steering handle and extends in the axial direction and has the latching lug on an end facing the gas bag module.
Alternatively, the latching element can also be designed in one piece with a skeleton of the steering handle, with the latching element extending in the axial direction toward the gas bag module and having the latching lug on its free axial end.

As can be seen in Figure 2, a spacer 34 is provided on the module base 30, which axially adjoins the latching section 32 on the side of the associated metal spring 28 facing the folded gas bag 26 (see also Figures 3 to 6) and together with this latching section 32 can be elastically deflected in the deflection direction x running transversely to the axis A. Specifically, three spacers 34 are provided in the present exemplary embodiment, each of which is assigned a metal spring 28 .
According to Figure 2, the module base 30 has at least one axial base opening 36 for receiving a latching element 20 of the steering handle 10, with both the latching section 32 of the associated metal spring 28 and the associated spacer 34 protruding into an opening cross section of the at least one base opening 36. In the present exemplary embodiment, three axial bottom openings 36 are specifically provided, each of which is associated with a metal spring 28 or a spacer 34 .
In the illustrated embodiment of the gas bag module 22, the spacers 34 are formed in one piece with the module base 30 (see also Figures 3 to 6), the module base 30 here being a plastic component, in particular an injection molded part made of plastic.
FIG. 3 shows a detail section of the vehicle steering unit 12 in the region of a latching connection between the gas bag module 22 and the steering handle 10, but before it is latched.
3 and its enlarged image section, it is easy to see that a section of the spacer 34 on a side of the metal spring 28 facing the folded gas bag 26 is axially adjacent to the latching section 32 thereof. It is also clear that the spacer 34 has an axial extension 38 which adjoins the latching section 32 of the metal spring 28 in the deflection direction x.
In the illustrated embodiment of the vehicle steering unit 12, the latching element 20 is a separate latching bolt attached to the steering handle 10, which extends in the axial direction and has a latching lug 40 on an axial end facing the gas bag module 22 for latching with the metal spring 28 of the gas bag module 22. At an opposite axial end, the locking bolt is attached to the steering handle 10, in particular to a skeleton 42 of the steering handle 10, in the region of the hub 14.
Alternatively, however, it is also conceivable for the latching element 20 to be designed in one piece with the skeleton 42 of the steering handle 10, with the latching element 20 extending in the axial direction toward the gas bag module 22 and having the latching lug 40 on its free axial end.
Due to the forces occurring when the gas bag module 22 is triggered and the associated safety requirements, the latching element 20 and the latching lug 40 are made here in particular from metal, regardless of whether they are designed separately as a latching bolt or are integrated in one piece into the skeleton 42 .
As shown in Figures 4 and 5, by applying an axial assembly force F to the gas bag module 22, the spacer 34 is elastically deflected together with the latching section 32 of the metal spring 28 in the deflection direction x until the spacer 34 together with the latching section 32 of the metal spring 28 snaps back against the direction of deflection x and engages behind the detent 40 of the detent element 20 according to FIGS.
It can be clearly seen from FIG. 6 and its enlarged image section that a section of the spacer 34 is in the latched state shown Stand of the gas bag module 22 in the axial direction between the locking lug 40 and the locking portion 32 of the metal spring 28 extends. In this way, a direct metal-to-metal contact between the metal spring 28 and the metal latching lug 40 is avoided and a resulting contact noise is thus also prevented or at least greatly dampened.
In order to actuate a vehicle horn, the gas bag module 22 in the illustrated embodiment of the vehicle steering unit 12 is mounted so that it can move to a limited extent in the axial direction relative to the steering handle 10 . According to FIGS. 3 to 6, a spring element 44 is provided, which acts on the gas bag module 22 and the steering handle 10 axially away from one another. The spring element 44 is here specifically a helical compression spring which is arranged between the steering handle 10 and the gas bag module 22 and which encloses the latching element 20 . To actuate the vehicle horn, the gas bag module 22 must be moved axially in the direction of the steering handle 10 against a spring force of the helical compression spring, with the latching section 32 of the metal spring 28 sliding axially along the latching bolt in an area with a reduced latching bolt cross section.
