Abstract
Description
負極は、負極集電体上に負極活物質が配置され、ローラなどにより圧縮することで充填密度及びエネルギー密度を高める。この圧縮において黒鉛粒子が潰れ、活物質間の空隙が減少することで、充填密度及びエネルギー密度が高まる。一方、負極は充電時に活物質が膨張し、活物質間に存在する非水電解質が活物質層の外に追い出される。放電時には、負極の活物質が収縮し、非水電解質が活物質層内に浸透して戻ってくるが、高容量化のために活物質間の空隙が少ないと非水電解質が活物質層に浸透しにくくなる。
図3は、実施形態の一例である負極30の断面図である。負極30は、負極集電体32と、負極集電体32上に設けられた負極活物質層34と、を有する二次電池用負極である。
(1)負極活物質層の断面を露出させる。断面を露出させる方法としては、例えば、負極の一部を切り取り、イオンミリング装置(例えば、日立ハイテク社製、IM4000PLUS)で加工し、負極活物質層の断面を露出させる方法が挙げられる。
(2)走査型電子顕微鏡を用いて、上記露出させた負極活物質層の断面の反射電子像を撮影する。反射電子像を撮影する際の倍率は、3千倍から5千倍である。
(3)上記により得られた断面像をコンピュータに取り込み、画像解析ソフト(例えば、アメリカ国立衛生研究所製、ImageJ)を用いて二値化処理を行い、断面像内の粒子断面を黒色とし、粒子断面に存在する空隙を白色として変換した二値化処理画像を得る。
(4)二値化処理画像から、粒径5μm~50μmの黒鉛粒子A,Bを選択し、当該黒鉛粒子断面の面積、及び当該黒鉛粒子断面に存在する内部空隙の面積を算出する。ここで、黒鉛粒子断面の面積とは、黒鉛粒子の外周で囲まれた領域の面積、すなわち、黒鉛粒子の断面部分全ての面積を指している。また、黒鉛粒子断面に存在する空隙のうち幅が3μm以下の空隙については、画像解析上、内部空隙か外部空隙かの判別が困難となる場合があるため、幅が3μm以下の空隙は内部空隙としてもよい。そして、算出した黒鉛粒子断面の面積及び黒鉛粒子断面の内部空隙の面積から、黒鉛粒子の内部空隙率(黒鉛粒子断面の内部空隙の面積×100/黒鉛粒子断面の面積)を算出する。黒鉛粒子A,Bの内部空隙率は、黒鉛粒子A,Bそれぞれ10個の平均値とする。
<内部空隙率が5%以下である黒鉛粒子A>
例えば、主原料となるコークス(前駆体)を所定サイズに粉砕し、それらを結着剤で凝集させた状態で、2600℃以上の温度で焼成し、黒鉛化させた後、篩い分けることで、所望のサイズの黒鉛粒子Aを得る。ここで、粉砕後の前駆体の粒径や凝集させた状態の前駆体の粒径等によって、内部空隙率を5%以下に調整することができる。例えば、粉砕後の前駆体の平均粒径(体積基準のメジアン径D50)は、12μm~20μmの範囲であることが好ましい。また、内部空隙率を5%以下の範囲で小さくする場合は、粉砕後の前駆体の粒径を大きくすることが好ましい。
<内部空隙率が8%~20%である黒鉛粒子B>
例えば、主原料となるコークス(前駆体)を所定サイズに粉砕し、それらを結着剤で凝集した後、さらにブロック状に加圧成形した状態で、2600℃以上の温度で焼成し、黒鉛化させる。黒鉛化後のブロック状の成形体を粉砕し、篩い分けることで、所望のサイズの黒鉛粒子Bを得る。ここで、ブロック状の成形体に添加される揮発成分の量によって、内部空隙率を8%~20%に調整することができる。コークス(前駆体)に添加される結着剤の一部が焼成時に揮発する場合、結着剤を揮発成分として用いることができる。そのような結着剤としてピッチが例示される。
正極20は、例えば金属箔等の正極集電体と、正極集電体上に形成された正極活物質層とで構成される。正極集電体には、アルミニウムなどの正極の電位範囲で安定な金属の箔、当該金属を表層に配置したフィルム等を用いることができる。正極活物質層は、例えば、正極活物質、結着剤、導電剤等を含む。
セパレータには、例えば、イオン透過性及び絶縁性を有する多孔性シート等が用いられる。多孔性シートの具体例としては、微多孔薄膜、織布、不織布等が挙げられる。セパレータの材質としては、ポリエチレン、ポリプロピレン等のオレフィン系樹脂、セルロースなどが好適である。セパレータは、セルロース繊維層及びオレフィン系樹脂等の熱可塑性樹脂繊維層を有する積層体であってもよい。また、ポリエチレン層及びポリプロピレン層を含む多層セパレータであってもよく、セパレータの表面にアラミド系樹脂、セラミック等の材料が塗布されたものを用いてもよい。
非水電解質は、非水溶媒と、非水溶媒に溶解した電解質塩とを含む。非水溶媒には、例えばエステル類、エーテル類、アセトニトリル等のニトリル類、ジメチルホルムアミド等のアミド類、及びこれらの2種以上の混合溶媒等を用いることができる。非水溶媒は、これら溶媒の水素の少なくとも一部をフッ素等のハロゲン原子で置換したハロゲン置換体を含有していてもよい。
[正極の作製]
正極活物質として、アルミニウム含有ニッケルコバルト酸リチウム(LiNi0.88Co0.09Al0.03O2)を用いた。上記正極活物質が100質量部、導電剤としてのカーボンブラックが0.8質量部、結着剤としてのポリフッ化ビニリデン粉末が0.7質量部となるよう混合し、さらにN-メチル-2-ピロリドン(NMP)を適量加えて、正極合剤スラリーを調製した。このスラリーをアルミニウム箔(厚さ15μm)からなる正極集電体の両面にドクターブレード法により塗布し、塗膜を乾燥した。このとき、合剤塗布量は両面合計で560g/m2とした。その後、圧延ローラにより塗膜を圧延した後、所定の電極サイズに切り取り、正極集電体の両面に正極活物質層が形成された正極を作製した。圧延では、極板厚みが161μmとなるようにした。
コークスを平均粒径(メジアン径D50)が12μmとなるまで粉砕した。粉砕したコークスに結着剤としてのピッチを添加し、コークスを平均粒径(メジアン径D50)が17μmとなるまで凝集させた。この凝集物を2800℃の温度で焼成して黒鉛化した後、250メッシュの篩いを用いて、篩い分けを行い、平均粒径(メジアン径D50)が23μmの黒鉛粒子Aを得た。
コークスを平均粒径(メジアン径D50)が15μmとなるまで粉砕し、粉砕したコークスに結着剤としてのピッチを添加して凝集させた後、さらに等方的な圧力で1.6g/cm3~1.9g/cm3の密度を有するブロック状の成形体を作製した。このブロック状の成形体を2800℃の温度で焼成して黒鉛化した。次いで、黒鉛化したブロック状の成形体を粉砕し、250メッシュの篩いを用いて、篩い分けを行い、平均粒径(メジアン径D50)が23μmの黒鉛粒子Bを得た。
黒鉛粒子Aが47.5質量部、黒鉛粒子Bが47.5質量部、SiОが5質量部となるように混合し、これを第1活物質層X用の負極活物質G1とした。負極活物質G1と1質量部のカルボキシメチルセルロース(CMC)と水とを混合した。この混合物と1質量部のスチレン-ブタジエン共重合体ゴム(SBR)と水とを混合して、第1活物質層X用の負極合剤スラリーを調製した。また、黒鉛粒子Bが95質量部、SiOが5質量部となるように混合し、これを第2活物質層Y用の負極活物質G2とした。負極活物質G2と1質量部のカルボキシメチルセルロース(CMC)と水とを混合した。この混合物と1質量部のスチレン-ブタジエン共重合体ゴム(SBR)と水とを混合して、第2活物質層Y用の負極合剤スラリーを調製した。
エチレンカーボネート(EC)と、ジメチルカーボネート(DMC)と、エチルメチルカーボネート(EMC)とを体積比で2:6:2となるように混合した非水溶媒に、ビニレンカーボネート(VC)を2質量部添加し、電解質としてのLiPF6を1.3mol/Lの濃度で溶解した。これによって非水電解質を調製した。
5枚の正極と6枚の負極とを2枚の負極が外側に位置し、正極及び負極の間にポリエチレン製微多孔膜からなる厚み20μmのセパレータを介在させるように積層して、積層型の電極体を作製した。そして、正極集電タブに正極リードを取り付け、負極集電タブに負極リードを取り付けた後、電極体と、非水電解質3.5gとをアルミラミネートフィルムで構成された電池ケース内に収容し、電池ケースの開口部を封止して、実施例1の非水電解質二次電池を作製した。
第1活物質層X用の負極合剤スラリーの塗布幅を0.2mmとし、第2活物質層Y用の負極合剤スラリーの塗布幅を3.1mmとし、それを繰り返すようにして、負極集電体の両面に塗布した。それ以外は、実施例1と同様にして、実施例2の非水電解質二次電池を作製した。
第1活物質層X用の負極合剤スラリーの塗布幅を1.0mmとし、第2活物質層Y用の負極合剤スラリーの塗布幅を2.3mmとし、それを繰り返すようにして、負極集電体の両面に塗布した。それ以外は、実施例1と同様にして、実施例3の非水電解質二次電池を作製した。
第1活物質層X用の負極合剤スラリーの塗布幅を2.0mmとし、第2活物質層Y用の負極合剤スラリーの塗布幅を1.3mmとし、それを繰り返すようにして、負極集電体の両面に塗布した。それ以外は、実施例1と同様にして、実施例4の非水電解質二次電池を作製した。
第1活物質層X用の負極合剤スラリーの塗布幅を2.5mmとし、第2活物質層Y用の負極合剤スラリーの塗布幅を0.8mmとし、それを繰り返すようにして、負極集電体の両面に塗布した。それ以外は、実施例1と同様にして、実施例5の非水電解質二次電池を作製した。
第1活物質層X用の負極合剤スラリーの塗布幅を3.0mmとし、第2活物質層Y用の負極合剤スラリーの塗布幅を0.3mmとし、それを繰り返すようにして、負極集電体の両面に塗布した。それ以外は、実施例1と同様にして、比較例1の非水電解質二次電池を作製した。
第2活物質層Y用の負極合剤スラリーのみを、負極集電体の両面に塗布した。このとき、負極合剤スラリーの塗布幅は、29.7mmである。それ以外は、実施例1と同様にして、比較例2の非水電解質二次電池を作製した。
負極合剤スラリーを作成するときに、黒鉛粒子Aが95質量部、SiOが5質量部となるように混合し、第3活物質層Z用の負極活物質G3とした。負極活物質G3と1質量部のカルボキシメチルセルロース(CMC)と水とを混合した。この混合物と1質量部のスチレン-ブタジエン共重合体ゴム(SBR)と水とを混合して、第3活物質層Z用の負極合剤スラリーを調製した。この第3活物質層Z用の負極合剤スラリーのみを、負極集電体の両面に塗布した。このとき、負極合剤スラリーの塗布幅は、29.7mmである。それ以外は、実施例1と同様にして、比較例3の非水電解質二次電池を作製した。
第1活物質層X用の負極合剤スラリーのみを、負極集電体の両面に塗布した。このとき、負極合剤スラリーの塗布幅は、29.7mmである。それ以外は、実施例1と同様にして、比較例4の非水電解質二次電池を作製した。
環境温度25℃の下、各実施例及び各比較例の非水電解質二次電池を、1C(4600mA)で、電圧が4.2Vになるまで定電流充電した後、4.2Vで、電流が1/50Cになるまで定電圧充電した。その後、0.5Cで、電圧が2.5Vになるまで定電流放電した。この充放電を1サイクルとして、300サイクル行った。そして、以下の式により、各実施例及び各比較例の非水電解質二次電池の充放電サイクルにおける容量維持率を求めた。
容量維持率=(300サイクル目の放電容量/1サイクル目の放電容量)×100
Claims (5)
- 負極集電体と、前記負極集電体上に設けられた負極活物質層と、を有する非水電解質二次電池用負極であって、
前記負極活物質層は、負極活物質として黒鉛粒子Aと、黒鉛粒子Bとを含み、かつ、前記黒鉛粒子A及び前記黒鉛粒子Bの合計質量に対する前記黒鉛粒子Aの含有量が互いに異なる、第1活物質層Xと第2活物質層Yとが前記負極集電体上に交互に配置されており、
前記黒鉛粒子Aの内部空隙率は前記黒鉛粒子Bの内部空隙率より小さく、前記第1活物質層Xにおける前記黒鉛粒子Aの前記含有量は、前記第2活物質層Yにおける前記黒鉛粒子Aの前記含有量より多くなっており、
前記第1活物質層Xの幅Wxと、前記第2活物質層Yの幅Wyとの比率Wx/Wyが0.03以上、3.13以下である、非水電解質二次電池用負極。 - 前記黒鉛粒子Aの内部空隙率が5%以下であり、前記黒鉛粒子Bの内部空隙率が8%以上、20%以下である、請求項1に記載の非水電解質二次電池用負極。
- 前記第1活物質層Xの幅Wxと前記第2活物質層Yの幅Wyの比率Wx/Wyが0.06以上、1.6以下である、請求項1または請求項2に記載の非水電解質二次電池用負極。
- 前記負極活物質層は、Si系材料を更に含んでいる、請求項1~3のいずれか1項に記載の非水電解質二次電池用負極。
- 請求項1~請求項4のいずれか1項に記載の非水電解質二次電池用負極と、正極と、前記非水電解質二次電池用負極及び前記正極の間のセパレータと、を備える、非水電解質二次電池。
