Description

FACE MASK SCENT SYSTEM
CROSS-REFERENCE
[0001] This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 63/055,782, filed July 23, 2020, and U.S. Provisional Application No. 63/122,371, filed December 7, 2020 which are hereby incorporated by reference in their entirety herein.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Spread of airborne illness may be prevented by protective face coverings which are placed over the mouth and nose of a wearer. Risk of disease transmission may be reduced for individuals including the wearer/ user of a face mask or covering, those around the wearer, and those who may come into contact with surfaces that have been in close proximity to the wearer.
SUMMARY
[0003] Provided herein are embodiments of a device configured to attach to a protective respiratory covering, comprising: a body comprising at least two surfaces; an adhesive layer disposed on at least one of the two surfaces; a cover disposed on the adhesive layer; and a scent disposed within the body.
[0004] In some embodiments, the adhesive layer comprises an adhesive corresponding to a material of the protective respiratory covering. In some embodiments, the adhesive layer is configured such that the device removably attaches to the protective respiratory covering. In some embodiments, the at least one surface which the adhesive layer is disposed comprises a curvature approximately equal to a curvature of the protective respiratory covering. In some embodiments, the curvature of the protective respiratory covering is an interior curvature of the protective covering. In some embodiments, the curvature of the protective respiratory covering is an exterior curvature of the protective covering.
[0005] In some embodiments, the body is substantially a disk shape. In some embodiments, the body is about .5 mm to 4 mm thick. In some embodiments, the diameter of the body is about 10 mm to 35 mm. DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0028] Provided herein are embodiments of a scent system for a protective respiratory covering, such as a face mask or covering. Face coverings may include surgical masks, decorative masks, protective respiratory coverings, respirator masks, scuba masks, or any covering over at least the nose or mouth of the wearer. A protective respiratory covering may be utilized in an industrial environment, a medical environment, a social environment, or any environment in which respiratory protection is desired. Face masks may be worn to protect from illness, airborne particulate, or any inhalable substance.
[0029] A protective respiratory covering that is placed over the mouth and nose of a wearer aids in the slowing or prevention of spread of airborne illness. Therefore, individuals such as the wearer/ user of a protective respiratory covering (e.g., a face mask or covering), those around the wearer, and those who may come into contact with surfaces that have been in close proximity to the wearer have a reduced risk of transmission.
[0030] Protective respiratory coverings may be constructed from materials such as cotton, polymer fiber, or other suitable materials. A decrease in illness transmission among a population may correlate to the percentage of the population utilizing a face covering. Usage of a simple cotton face mask or cover among approximately 95% of a population may reduce transmission of illness by about 30%. Transmission may be further reduced by utilizing face masks comprised of a filter material, such as a fiber mesh. Proper usage of a face covering may include covering the nose and mouth of the wearer.
[0031] However, compliance among the general population to wear a protective respiratory covering, such as a face mask, is a significant challenge. This lack of compliance may include a complete failure to wear a face mask in a public settings or within gatherings of two or more people, failure to wear the face mask properly (e.g., not covering the nose of the face mask wearer), or initial compliance to wear a face mask, but the face mask is subsequently removed or worn incorrectly after a period of time of wearing the face mask correctly. The mask wearing may also be difficult because of the younger age of the wearer. Therefore, there is a great need for inventions to increase compliance with wearing a protective respiratory covering, such as a face mask.
[0032] One cause of non-compliance may be unpleasant odors within the protective respiratory covering. Therefore, there is a need to provide a scent within a protective respiratory covering to increase comfort for the wearer. [0033] Halitosis, previously consumed food, or bacterial build up within the protective respiratory covering may create unpleasant odors and discomfort for the wearer. The protective respiratory covering itself may have been produced in such a way that it releases an unpleasant odor. Or the wearer may be wearing the protective respiratory covering in an area that itself has an unpleasant odor. Comfort of a protective respiratory covering may be increased by reducing odors or providing a pleasant scent, thus, increasing compliance with mask wearing.
[0034] To increase compliance with wearing a protective respiratory covering (e.g., a face mask or covering), it may be beneficial to make the face covering as comfortable as possible. A user may not want to wear a protective respiratory covering for an extended period if usage of the protective respiratory covering is uncomfortable. Less mature individuals, such as children, may refuse to wear a protective respiratory covering if they experience discomfort during usage. Providing a scented protective respiratory covering may therefore distract the individual from the discomfort of the protective respiratory covering to increase compliance with wearing a protective respiratory covering. In some embodiments, the addition of a scent device and the ability to choose a scent to add to a protective respiratory covering makes wearing a protective respiratory covering a more fun and pleasant experience. In this way, the wearer can choose both the style of protective respiratory covering and a scent they prefer.
[0035] Provided herein are embodiments of a protective respiratory covering scent system, such as face mask scent system. In some embodiments, the scent system includes a scent device. In some embodiments, the scent device is adapted to be received by a protective respiratory covering or face covering. In some embodiments, the scent device configured to be removed from a protective respiratory covering or face covering. In some embodiments, the scent in the scent device is a temporary scent. In some embodiments, the scent in the scent device lasts for one hour, two hours, three hours, four hours, five hours, six hours, seven hours, eight hours, nine hours, ten hours, eleven hours, twelve hours, thirteen hours, fourteen hours, fifteen hours, sixteen hours, seventeen hours, eighteen hours, nineteen hours, twenty hours, twenty-one hours, twenty-two hours, twenty-three hours, or twenty-four hours. In some embodiments, the scent in the scent device lasts for more than 24 hours. The scent in the scent device may be modulated such that the person wearing the protective respiratory covering is the primary person that smells the scent. This may prevent others around the person wearing the protective respiratory from being disturbed by the chosen scent. The scent in the scent device may be modulated or the strength of the scent chosen according to the personal preference of the person wearing the protective respiratory covering. After the scent has dissipated or the person wearing the protective respiratory covering no longer needs to wear the protective respiratory covering, the scent device may be removed from the protective respiratory covering. Therefore, the person wearing the protective respiratory covering may choose a new scent or use the same scent in a new scent device for the next time the protective respiratory covering is worn. The ability to change out the scent may increase the compliance of the person wearing the protective respiratory covering, especially if the person is a child.
[0036] In some embodiments, the protective respiratory covering scent system or face mask scent system comprises a scent device and a protective respiratory covering or face mask to receive said scent device. The protective respiratory covering or face mask may be configured to receive the scent device. The scent device may be configured to be removable from the protective respiratory covering or the face mask.
