Description

RELEASABLE CONNECTOR
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to sealing devices and, more particularly, to releasable connectors for interconnecting drain pipes.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
When plumbing equipment is mounted, no flexibility in coupling members interconnecting pipes and other elements to be mounted. Internal washers prone to skewing cannot be diagnosed and increase risk of leakage.
Thus, there is a long-felt and unmet need to provide a releasable connector for connecting a tube thereto enabling flexibility of coupling in the range between 0° and 6°.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
It is hence one object of the invention to disclose a releasable connector for connecting a tube thereto. The aforesaid connector comprises: (a) a flared tube member configured for receiving the tube therewithin and embracing the tube therearound; the flared tube member having at least one cutout; (b) a washer placeable between the tube and the flared tube member.
It is a core purpose of the invention to provide the connector comprising a quick release clamp tightably surrounding the flared tube member. The washer is configured for sitting within the flared tube member operatively sealing the interface between the flared tube member and the tube. The washer is defined by an internal cylindrical surface and an external convex surface. The internal cylindrical surface is provided with an internally projecting flange the washer is mountable onto the male tube before placing the male tube into the flared tube member. Another object of the invention is to disclose angle a between an axis of the tube and an axis of the flared tube member when the tube is connected to the flared tube member which is adjustable within a range between 0° and 6°
A further object of the invention is to disclose the connector provided with a quick release clamp of the toggle latch type and its variants for tightening the flared tube member around the male tube.
A further object of the invention is to disclose a method of connecting a releasable connector to a tube is disclosed. The aforesaid method comprises steps of: (a) providing a releasable connector comprising: (i) a flared tube member configured for receving the tube therewithin and embracing the tube therearound; the flared tube member having at least one cutout; (ii) a washer placeable between the tube and the flared tube member; the connector comprises a quick release clamp surrounding tightly the flared tube member such that the washer seals the interface between the flared tube member and the tube; (b) inserting the tube into the flared tube member such that the washer is placed between the flared tube member and the tube; and (c) releasably fastening the flared tube member on the tube by means of the quick release clamp.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
In order to understand the invention and to see how it may be implemented in practice, a plurality of embodiments is adapted to now be described, by way of non-limiting example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which
Figs 1 and 2 are isometric views of a releasable connector;
Fig. 3 is an exploded isometric view of a releasable connector; and
Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view of a releasable connector. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The following description is provided, so as to enable any person skilled in the art to make use of said invention and sets forth the best modes contemplated by the inventor of carrying out this invention. Various modifications, however, are adapted to remain apparent to those skilled in the art, since the generic principles of the present invention have been defined specifically to provide a releasable connector for connecting a tube thereto and a method of doing the same.
Reference is now made to Figs 1 and 2 showing isometric views of a releasable connector comprising flared tube member 30 (female member) configured for receiving a tube (male member) therewithin and embracing said tube therearound. Flared tube member 30 has at least one cutout 38 dividing petals 35. Connnected tube 10 is placed into sealing washer 40. Petals 35 embracing sealing washer 40 are fastened by quick release clamp 20. Thus, a sealed connection between the releasable connector and tube to be connected is established.A right-angle connector is also in the scope of the present invention.
Reference is now made to Fig. 3 presenting a an exploded isometric view of a releasable connector. Specifically, sealing washer 40 is defined by internal cylindrical surface 43 and external convex surface 45. Internal cylindrical surface 43 is provided with internally projecting flange 47. It should be noted that sealing washer 40 is mounted onto the male tube 10 before placing the male tube into the flared tube member (the female end) 30. Thus, the position of sealing washer 40 relative tube 10 within flared tube member 30 after fastening by clamp 20 is well reproducible. Due to the internal cylindrical surface 43 and external convex surface 45, there is tolerance of movement of the male to female members relative to each other.
Reference is now made to Fig. 4 presenting a cross-sectional view of releasable connector 100 connected to tube 10. It should be noted that the member 30 allows a substantial play of tube 10. Angle a refers to optional deviation from coaxial position of tube 10 relative to flared tube member 30. Angle a can be adjusted according to real geometry of pipe systems to be mounted. According to the present invention a releasable connector for connecting a tube thereto is disclosed. The aforesaid connector comprises: (a) a flared tube member configured for receiving the tube therewithin and embracing the tube therearound; the flared tube member having at least one cutout; (b) a washer placeable between the tube and the flared tube member.
It is a core feature of the invention to provide the connector comprising a quick release clamp tightably surrounding the flared tube member.
According one embodiment of the present invention, angle a between an axis of the tube and an axis of the flared tube member when the tube is connected to the flared tube member is adjustable within a range between 0° and 6°
According another embodiment of the present invention, the connector is provided with a quick release clamp of the toggle latch type and its variants for tightening the flared tube member around the male tube.
According a further embodiment of the present invention, a method of connecting a releasable connector to a tube is disclosed.
